Rush live in Toronto the night after the Toronto Maple Leafs season opener against the Montreal Canadiens in the Air Canada Centre? It's as if both the Rock and Roll Gods (Lemmy?) and the Hockey Gods got together and decided to throw a champagne jam!
When Rush announced their tour dates, I purchased tickets for the October 14th show in Toronto. I've seen em a few times before, but always wanted to see them in their old stomping grounds. Looking foward to the voyage from Wisconsin to visit our friends from the north, my ladyfriend and I applied for ou passports. Then the NHL released the 2012-2013 schedule. Toronto Maple Leafs at home against the Habs. Bam. Had to be there as part of my lifetime quest to see all the original 6 teams play on their home ice. Calls were made, emails were sent and I now have a line on tickets for the game if all works out. If not, I'm sure there are a few watering holes near the arena to catch the game and sip on a few beers with fellow hockey enthusists.
Just when everything looks like it's coming together for the Ultimate Canadian Weekend, my truck decides to crap out. Brakes are important on a vehicle - you know, to prevent accidents, not run people or pupies over, and to get from point A to point B. So the truck went to the shop. $1000 later, my truck was drivable again, but the funds for flight and hotel were dry and shriveled up.
Now here's the part where you come in, oh generous hockey fanatics and Rush addicts. Since I am one in the same, I know the passion for both runs deep within the legions of fans. It takes a unique individual to fully appreciate both the sport and the band. If you could even spare a dollar, it'll help make this trip possible. I normally hate asking for help and am usually one of the first to volunteer. I know this may seem like a "hey, you with extra cash, pay for my trip" situation, but this is more than a trip, it's a once in a lifetime chance to experience two of the greatest products that Canada has to offer.
