The sick children in the free wards of the hospitals and the women in the homes for single mothers are unwilling patrons who take in the measly subsidy for their daily meals provided by the Philippines Government Agencies. Most often the burden of providing enough food for them still lies upon their families who can hardly get to their next meal at home. MANNA food bank, a non-profit charity organization, has taken this burden to alleviate hunger for these beneficiaries in Baguio City. Although food is not a problem and certainly not scarce, MANNA food bank favors a solidarity network between the demand for decent and nutritious food for the needy with the local food producing businesses and the market place. At MANNA food bank, we provide food for the needy by getting the food related businesses to donate their surplus food. Food rescue is the practice of retrieving the surplus and edible food that would otherwise be deliberately destroyed to end up as trash and distributing these food with dignity, prepared and packaged graciously to those in need. The recovered food is perfectly edible but not sell-able. We at MANNA food bank, the first one in Baguio City, are willing volunteers with a two prong advocacy: to feed those who lack in nutritious food and reduce the big amount of food waste that ends up in the city landfill. We appeal to your magnanimous desire to reach out to the hungry and still save the world from the further hazards of global warming by reducing food waste in the dumpsters. This fund will help put up a decent kitchen and food storage facility as well as provide for the mobilization costs in the distribution of the food to our beneficiaries and picking up the food materials from the food donors. So please partner with us in thinking that with you, we are helping those who are not able to provide for themselves at the present times. Thank you for your kind hearts.
