Mama Needs Financial Help to Kick Big C’s Butt Urgently

Hello, I am Gab, 28 years old, a Filipina, and the eldest in family. I currently work in a small grocery store in our small city. My father died last 2020 because of hypertension (and negligence of the hospital because they thought he had COVID-19 and they did not prioritized his emergency case). My sister is currently jobless and my mother was formerly an elementary teacher.

I used the usernames @veryperiangel, @angelveryperi, @yourlostveryperiangel, @mamaandherveryperiangel, and @02mamaandherveryperiangel before in Tumblr where I first started my fundraising project but all the accounts were terminated by the platform because they were tagged as donation posts. Currently, I am using @03mamaandherveryperiangel but if ever my account gets terminated again for whatever reason, my username will surely be something like "very peri angel."

This post is solely dedicated for my mother's donation drive for her cancer battle. Just a little background, it all started when she was in school during their lunch break and she felt a hard lump on the side of her left breast. Soon after, because of the recommendation of her co-teachers and our father, she had biopsy and was diagnosed with an early stage of breast cancer last September 2017. Later on, she undergone mastectomy, wherein her left breast was completely removed. After some time of recovery and consultation, her oncologist and surgeon advised my mother to proceed with a number of chemotherapy sessions (6 to 8 months), radiation therapy (6 months), and some oral medications to take after because her case was a bit aggressive.

At that time, my father was still recovering from his first stroke attack and all our savings were used for his medication, physical rehab, and hospitalization. Then followed my mother's surgery which really drained my savings, like drained 'til the last centavo. And due to that financial instability and my mother's hesitation (she is anemic), we opted to delay the chemotherapy sessions and seek alternative medications which are way more affordable for us. 2018 was also the last time we visited her oncologist because the hospital is 1 hour and 30 minutes away from us and her fees are just way above what we can afford.

Fast forward to 2022, my mother is feeling some hard lumps in her neck, underarm, and a little above her chest. It's a bit alarming on my end but I can't bring her to the hospital yet because my salary is not enough. So I went to a cancer foundation wherein we can get financial assistance but this may take time since there are a lot of patients too. I also tried contacting charity organizations, about 6 as of now, and we're also waitlisted.

Back in 2017, we were asked to prepare approximately $18,000 for all the procedures that my mother needs. I'm sure that by this year, it would have increased but I'll just try to meet this goal first so we can start what needs to be done. I'm praying that by June or July of this year, we can start with the sessions so again, I'm humbly asking for your help. This time, it's for my mom and her health.

Just to share a little progress, since we were categorized as an indigent family, we were given an opportunity to have Mama's first chemotherapy session settled in installment.

The first session is $5000 but through the recommendation and help of our oncologist, we were given the option to pay $2500 on the day of the session and the other $2500 after a month. However, we only have $507 onhand and that slot/opportunity was valid until June 2, 2022.

Another good news is, 1 cancer foundation already replied to us however, the start of their assistance begins on the 3rd session of the chemotherapy. Only then they'll cover 25% of the expenses. We haven't started our first session yet so we still can't use the assistance.

The past weeks and days have been tough because Mama was experiencing pain and uneasiness on her neck down to her underarm. And just to share, here are the alternative treatments we're doing to somehow ease her condition.
