I am a Kenyan medical doctor born raised and now practicing in Thika subcounty (50 km from Nairobi). My home neighbours Kiandutu slums ( Thika's biggest and ever growing slum). I have worked for international non govermental organisations (N.G.Os) specifically based on family planning e.g Marie stopes International and usaid supported local N.G.Os. i have interacted and have close relatives and friends residing in this slum. Its now my time to give back to this community and my plans involves getting all the help both local and international! i plan to set up a community based clinic under the name MAMA MJANJA (SWAHILI FOR SMART MUM). This is a small clinic which is strictly geared at educating and health support (no financial support or otherwisel). Our target will be impoverished women of child bearing age whose physical location are within the slum boundaries. This is to necessiate follow up and accoutability. i have made a plan of actions and consulted professionals on a workable road map. My chief constraint is finance more so the recurrent expences that are invoved...i have been adviced on getting a partner/sponser but this has prooved easier said than done. i believe this project will be pivotal in changing the lives of mothers in Kiandutu slum...am not planning on giving up!! i am calling out on all of you to be part of this...any support physical spiritual financial or otherwise is welcomed. Feel free to contact me to get comprehensive details on this . Remember this is our project not my project. i would love to get input both techinical and social in regard to this.... LETS DO THIS!!!!!!!!
