Mama Mary Image of Tagpos Binangonan Needs A New and Permanent Home

MAMA MARY NEEDS A HOME.

This is the perennial predicament besetting the faithful of Barangay Tagpos in the Municipality of Binangonan, Province of Rizal, Philippines. It once had a small chapel which houses the image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, but an unfortunate event forces it to be evicted therefrom and desolately become “homeless”.

It is not known when the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by the people of Barangay Tagpos started. But one thing this image of the Blessed Mother is known for is that it is miraculous, often seen in different places at the same time.

According to legends, a woman from a town in Bulacan Province went to the Barrio of Tagpos looking for a certain “Ka Anong”. According to the woman, a beautiful lady approached her and asked for a glass of water. The woman asked the lady where she was heading and the lady said she was wandering because she has no permanent home. The woman asked the lady from where she came from. The lady replied she was from the Barrio of Tagpos in Binangonan, Rizal and that she is already tired of transferring from one place to another. The lady then asked the woman a favor for the latter to go to the Barrio of Tagpos, look for a certain “Anong” and tell him that she wanted a permanent home for her. Thereafter, the lady miraculously vanished. When showed with the image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the woman was astonished and identified the same as the wandering lady she had talked to.

From that moment, the people of Barrio Tagpos started to raise funds for the acquisition of a parcel of land and construction of a small chapel to house the image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. With the help of generous people, the chapel was constructed in 1975 and since became the center of devotion of the people of Barangay Tagpos.

However, in 2012, a legal dispute involving the property where the Chapel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary stood broke the hearts of the faithful in Barangay Tagpos. The claimant of the property fenced the perimeter of the chapel, demolished the structure and began constructing a commercial building, thereby forcing the image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to be evicted therefrom. Sadly, Mama Mary is homeless once again.

As a result of the eviction, a group of devotees decided to form the Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary Tagpos (SIHMT), Inc., a non-government and non-profit organization registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (the “Society”), to primarily look for a permanent site to construct a new chapel to permanently house the miraculous image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

In 2017, through the generosity of Spouses Macatlang, the Society was able to secure a new site in Agua Monte Subdivision for the construction of a new and permanent chapel for the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The construction of the chapel commenced in the last quarter of 2017 but was stalled to this date due to lack of funds.

In the Gospel of St. John (Ch. 9, 26-27), Our Lord Jesus Christ, during his Passion, entrusted the Blessed Mother to his beloved apostle, thus:

When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son!"

Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

This is a continuing call of Our Lord from the Holy Cross that we take the Blessed Virgin Mary, not only into our homes, but most importantly in our hearts.
