We are in need of financial support for our Mama. She was diagnosed with brain metastasis through MRI scan last October 5, 2018. And was in and out of the hospital since December 2017.

Our Mama's first diagnosis

She underwent an operation last December 2017 for myoma removal. Her ob gynecologist noticed that there were some unhealthy spots on the removed myoma, as well as on the ovaries which leads to a TAH-BSO procedure. Her ob gyne decided to pass the specimen for biopsy and the results showed that our Mama has a rare case called Leiomyosarcoma in uterus. We were then advised to seek an opinion from an ob oncologist and there, the illness was confirmed.

Months passed and her immune system dropped. She had a severe cough which lead us to bring her to a pulmonologist. The xray showed that the cancer cells jumped to her lungs (lungs metastasis).

Mama started fighting lungs metastasis

On July 2018, she started her chemo therapy and the medicine costs Php 51,000 per cycle, not including misc fees. A cycle consists of 3 sessions. The first session usually needs to be done in the hospital and have her admitted to monitor the reaction of the medicine given to her. Then the second and third sessions will be in the clinic. The next cycle will start after 21 days of the first session. Her oncologist advised that after the 3rd cycle, which was done last September 19, 2018, another CT scan should be performed first to check the progress of the lungs metastasis, and it was scheduled October 1st. However, she was admitted again on September 22 to Unihealth Southwoods due to pneumonia, and was discharged September 28. After 2 days, sudden weakness was observed, she started feeling unwell and started vomiting, her vision became blurred which caused her to bump everyone and everything on her way, and she's complaining that her head was aching. 2 days had passed, and her condition became worst, she was unable to stand and complaining about the headache being severe and the vomiting became constant. We bring her to the ER and after sets of evaluations, her oncologist pushed through with the MRI scan, and the result is, brain metastasis. She was then confined to ICU for better monitoring for almost 2 days, and is now staying in a regular room. Her oncologist refer a radiologist oncologist to perform radio therapy to shrink the tumor, which will start when the swollen on her brain subside.

Mama fights brain metastasis

The radio therapy started mid October 2018 and lasted for 10 days, having weekend as her restday. The procedure was not easy for her and for our Papa who is always beside her, as they need to ride the ambulance to go to a different hospital because the machine was not fucntioning at FEU Hospital. Having that circumstances, they managed to finish the session and it was indeed a big help as it improves our Mama's condition.

Our Mama continue the fight for lungs metastasis

The improvement with her motorworks due to brain metastasis gave our Mama and our family relief. Meanwhile, during her stay at the hospital, though she was not complaining, my Papa noticed her heavy breathing whenever our Mama is talking. Then she was advised to undergo lungs ultrasound, and found out that it was due to the fluid that her lungs produce. The doctors need to drain it every now and then to give her relief in breathing. As the procedure is not that simple and of course would hurt, the doctor advised to put a so called "pigtail" wherein a hose is connected to her lungs so the fluid can be easily drained. Days had passed and it helps.

Happy day, discharge day of our Mama

After 1 month and 4 days of stay in the hospital, with countless needle insertions, lab tests, ultrasounds, scans, blood extractions, she was then advised to go home. November 9 is the date for her, she was excited and full of energy and hope that she's fine, however, after 1 day, she had a high fever, having her full fighting spirit the fever subside. The next day, she started requesting for her favorite food to be cooked by our Papa. She enjoyed her stay at home for 2 days, and then my Papa noticed that her pigtail bag has no fluid and the hose was clogged with something, which cause our Mama's difficulty in breathing, again. We then decided to bring her to the hospital to check and maybe drain her lungs as what we know that could be the reason why she's having difficulty in breathing again, and knowing that oxygen is one of the first aid, we advised them that after her check up, they go buy oxygen. We never thought that she will be admitted again after 3 days of being discharged from the hospital. Another set of needle insertion, lab tests, blood extraction.

Our Mama continues the fight...
