My mom was admitted last June 11, 2022 at 1:30am in Lung Center of the Philippines. This started when she lost her appetite for 2 days (no food intake). Upon first check by her pulmo-onco, her doctor said this is due to her pneumonia. She was provided with antibiotics but after a week, her test results show no improvement in her lungs and with mild improvement in her appetite. We stayed another week for the next antibiotics provided. During this time, my mom was more restless than before at night. Before, she wakes up to tell us that she wants to pee. Now, she wakes up because she is either having hard time breathing or having palpitations. It got worse as the day passed wherein she sweat a lot in her head. We are forced to provide her a calming medicine. At first, it helped but we noticed that her focusness lost (her eyes always seem braggy). She also had a hard time solving subtraction problems we give her. My sister told the nurses/doctors to have her a test in the heart. It was then noted that she got a heart attack. We were advised to either transfer to ICU or to monitoring ward. My mom don't want ICU because no family member is allowed to be with her. Hence, we transferred to the monitoring ward and were required to hire private duty nurse (PDN) every day that cost 3k/day. Many lab test / procedures were made, especially ABG that hurts her a lot. We stayed there for another week until before she is transferred to ICU. Before her transfer, she was silent, having hard time to talk and hear what we say. Then on the 2nd to the last day at monitoring ward at almost 12mn, she started to blur the words: "Hindi ko na kaya.. tulungan niyo ako" - "I cannot do this anymore, pls. help me". We keep on encouraging her but she seems to go back to these words. We thought it was the calming medicine side effects so we let it go but until the next morning and till the next night, she keeps on saying these words that really hurts us a lot as her daughters. My sister noted that her eyes is already not opening.. her sensorium decreased. She was ABG again and there they noted that her carbon dioxide level is high.. that is why she always feel sleepy. The solution is either bipap machine or intubation. The fellow said to do bipap first. She bipap the whole midnight to morning but only showed minor improvement in the various ABGs done to her. In the morning, the new fellow on duty said the small improvement maybe due to the leak in the bipap machine so they tighten the mask. When I saw her in bipap, the mask really hurts her ears a lot. At around early morning, her oxygen level decreased (desat) until it reached 9 (normal is 90 above) wherein she already hardens and lost her consciousness. She already darkened. Emergency intubation was made and she suddenly waked up... but wake up in very deep pain. Her head twitch, her eyes are closed, her lips are very dry, her swelling arms/hands wants to remove the tube but we can't let her do that because she will go away. She suffered that for more than 2 hours because the sedation medicines didn't arrive quickly. I cannot do anything but to put my hand in her head, massage her, pray for her, play Christian songs for her, have her church sisters/brothers call her.. I watched my mom in pain while i only cry and don't know what to do to take this pain away from her. We decided to transfer her to ICU as we want the staff to have a great focus on her (despite she doesn't want there as we cannot go inside except for one person a day/one hour a day). She was transferred around 10:30pm. Repeated labs and ABG and ultrasound and I don't know were made to her. Now it is going her 3rd day in ICU. What we can do here at home is wait for the update in viber by her nurse and provide the needed medicines or other consent forms needed.

My mom was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma since 2018. She also suffered SLE (immunodeficiency) since 2009. Her CA medicines had various effects, making her sight unclear, making her have deep wounds that needs wound caring in the hospital, deaf in ears, arterial blocks, etc. All of this started because she is a great mom to us. She works at a travel agency wherein she suffered a lot of stress as the demand from her is high. She goes home and tutor us everyday for us to get good grades. She then wakes up early to go to office. She lacks sleep and she suffered a lot of stress that led her to have SLE, and this is all where her other illness started to developed. She didn't tell us until we learned from our uncle on what she suffered back then. I remembered the days I demand her to buy me new clothes or toys, or get angry on her being so strict in our study. I realize all her hardship when I tried to help her in her part time tutors. Now, we cannot do anything but to support her on the medications; on what she wants to do.

I'm reaching out as I know I cannot do this alone. I'm reaching out to your generous heart to please pray for my mom every day. I miss that smile she has back before she suffered this. I miss the sweetness we shared in the house every day. We all miss her here while she suffer there.. I cannot do anything but pray and trust in God's will for her. Pls. help pray for my mom to be able to go home even for a short time.. to be able to smile again.. to be able to enjoy even a short time with us. I want her to be with God in a happy way.. not this way. Even only this.. even only a short time dear God, pls. help my mom to be able to go home happily. Pls. accept her as how we live is a testimony of how great she is.

Thank you for your prayers. Thank you also to those who will support my mom's medications. Thank you to those who believe that my mom will be happy later on. Thank you to those who are there for her.
