Mally Krashers – Mongol Rally 2019

There’s great adventure waiting right around the corner! When I say “great adventure”, I mean having to hear our mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbours, colleagues and one extremely judgemental hairdresser telling us off for our poor life choices just to have a good time. Oh, and when I say “right around the corner”, I actually mean the land of Genghis Khan… Mongolia - a tad bit to the right of Malta (The team's origin).

This adventure, also known as my mother’s current worst nightmare, is called “Mongol Rally”!

Mongol Rally is the greatest motoring adventure on the planet. Starting in a few weeks time, this is roughly 13,000 kilometers of chaos across mountain, deserts and steppe on roads ranging from bad to not-a-road in two tiny 1000cc cars we got for free from an old guy who apparently is alergic to deodorants… or showers for that matter. There’s no backup. There’s no set route. There’s no guarantee we’ll make it to the end. It’s just us, our rolling pieces of crap, and a planet earth sized bucket of adventure.

We're a team of 7 enthusiastic, overly-confident, good looking blokes: Jennifer, Andrew, Brunella, Nicholas, Luke, Romy & Paul... and we’re called Mally Krashers! Everyone has his/ her own particular set of skills – One is a skilled mechanic… the other six are extremely well trained at doing nothing. The starting place is in a secret junkyard 30 minutes away from Prague in Czech Republic. We plan to pass through Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and hopefully finishing in Mongolia. For all those historians out there, this route is also known as the Silk Road!

Mongol Rally isn’t just about the adventure. It’s also an opportunity to raise money for the less fortunate. We’ve setup our very own Voluntary Organisation to get money and relay to 3 NGOs we’ve partnered with; Anita’s Palace, Dar Bjorn & Cool Earth. Cool Earth is the official NGO partner of the Mongol Rally who work with anti-deforestation communities. Dar Bjorn is a specialised nursing home for ALS, MS & Neuro patients, and Anita’s Palace are doing a fantastic job in Kenya with under-privileged children to give them a safe place, for sanitisation and education.

There aren’t many adventures that can match this one! Just to give you a perspective of the trip… Imagine travelling 13,000 km in a rusty charriot across mountains, desert and steppe between Czech Republic and Mongolia, sleeping in flabby tents, showering with wet wipes, rationing food and water, seeing different cultures, mingling with locals and meeting like-minded people! How better can it get, really?
