Malaya – A Thesis Short Film

Hello! My name is Amanna Avena and I'm a graduating film student from the Philippines. At the age of 13, I began making videos through my volunteer work as the videographer of my local church. Since then, I became very passionate about filmmaking and decided to pursue it in college. Now in my final year, I have chosen to tell a message that is very close to my heart—the significance of the human life. I hope to bring this message through my thesis film, entitled "Malaya."

Malaya is a story about a 16-year-old girl who finds out that she's pregnant. Being the breadwinner of her family, she considers abortion, only to accidentally discover her mother’s past.

Malaya is scheduled to be shot this 2020 and I will be needing help raising the funds for it. The goal is to reach P100,000 in order to provide for the costs needed for equipment, staff, actors, production design, food, and transportation. Once completed, I plan to submit it to film festivals in the Philippines and abroad.
