Campaign Story
Malawi is one of the countries that is most affected by poverty. We are a group of Veterinary students and soon to be vets that have Malawi placed on our hearts by the Lord. We are working together with a specific school and community. The area is Sani, which is in the area of Nkothakota Bay, about 3 hours drive from the closest town (Lilongwe). The school known as Sani school is a very old Anglican school built by Missionaries.
We have been to Sani school twice and we have already repainted all but one of the classrooms and we also put doors and locks on the classrooms.
Our main goal is to build a long term relationship with this community and get them out of the situation they are in. In Malawi the government pays teacher's salaries and the teachers can go teach where they like. Sani doesn't have electricity, running water or proper houses for the teachers to stay in, thus they don't want to teach here. This has lead to generations of students who don't finish school and fall back on what their parents do, which is fishing and getting married and having children. The fish in lake Malawi are getting scarce and the food very little. People are only surviving because there are some organisations that can give a bag of maize every once in a while. Their staple diet is cassava and maize meal, with some fish sometimes (only the better off). People live in mud huts with no beds or furniture of any kind.
So specifically in the long term we wish to build teachers houses and maby someday even get electricity to Sani School. We want to teach these children and the community to be self-sufficient instead of them just thinking that we as missionaries provide every year.
We appreciate any donations and prayers.
