Blessed is the hand that gives because it will receive abundantly. The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
Children are not responsible for the bombs and bullets, the droughts and disasters – but they are often the worst affected. Children and young people continue to flee their devastated homelands by foot, in the back of lorries, and across the Mediterranean Sea on crowded dinghies. Left with no choice, they are forced to risk everything. Their lives have been turned upside down. So many have lost their parents and loved ones, their homes, their schools. The journey is treacherous and children are exposed to the elements as well as to violence and exploitation.
Every child deserves a better future. While we make sure our children get the best 3 times meal a day, many unfortunate children sleeps with their empty stomach for days. Your support will help provide life-saving supplies, including clothes, food, clean water, medical care, education and protection to children and families who desperately need it. Across the region we are also providing Child-Friendly Spaces for vulnerable children which offer learning support and psychological care, as well as being a safe space to rest and play.
Good works is giving to the poor and the helpless, but divine works is showing them their worth to the One who matters. It's not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something. May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of person kind, bringing hope to the lost and love to the lonely. We cannot do all the good that the world needs. But the world needs all the good that we can do.
