Hi all, I am a Singaporean currently in Chios, Greece, doing voluntary work with Chios Eastern Shore Response Team (CESRT). CESRT is an organisation that provides direct humanitarian aid that meets immediate needs for refugees and asylum seekers arriving after long journeys from war-torn countries or countries where oppression has been untenable and equally life threatening. Refugees arrive in the European Union on the Chios’ Eastern Shore or at Chios Port after a short but no less fear-filled, life threatening crossing of the Aegean Sea from Turkey.

On arrival, they are met by a warm CESRT welcome, providing water, food, immediate basic care, warm blankets and clothes with warm smiles engaging in friendly exchanges discretely listening to and with an observant eye to identify the most vulnerable individuals for the immediate first care by accompanying doctors, one of our own and others from SMH 1.

The CESRT warehouse continues to be central to the preparation and provision of the food, water, clothes and other essential logistical support to all refugees on Chios through regular distributions and community building activities. The Language Centre provide English classes and HOPE (House Of People) provides a friendly, safe haven for play and educational activities for parents with their children.

Supporting a world affair isn't as simple as giving them the essentials but also the logistical support for these donations given by people all over the world. Your donation can go a long way in easing the logistical troubles faced by CESRT and allow us to better assist the refugees.

As this campaign is only on for the period of time that I am around in Chios, I would post about what we do or have done on a daily basis so that you can decide if you want to take part in my journey to help out with a world affair and make a difference in someone's life. These posts will be written on the campaign updates you see on this page itself.

Disclaimer: All donations will strictly go to CESRT and will be represented by pictures on how the money is being spent. By donating, you agree that these funds will be entrusted to me to be given to CESRT Chios.

Day 3

Update posted by Jia Qing Teng at 07:39 pm

Got a chance to head to the Hope centre today. Hope centre is a place where refugees can head there to receive their essentials (e.g. clothes/pampers/showering materials/access to showers/undergarments/sanitary pad, etc). It is also a place where families can come and rest while volunteers entertain their children. An induction programme. . . . .

I was tasked to bring back some boxes from the municipality in Chios. Together with some volunteers, we went together to bring the boxes of donations back to the Warehouse. When we arrived at the building, it was one of the biggest abandoned building in Chios and I was surprised. . . . .
