Make the change!

Have you ever had to think about where to take a shower or what will you eat today? Did your parents tuck you in and read you bedtime stories? How about education? Did you have support while you were studying?

Some of us are not so lucky.

This is a story of hope...
Hope of better future for children who don't have access to opportunities and possibilities that most of us are taking for granted.

Together with my friends from the NGO Youth association Breza (NGO that for the past 17 years provides care for youth without proper family support through social services www.breza.hr), I'm trying to raise funds for equipping the house that we rented and is located in the City of Vukovar in Croatia.

Vukovar is the city that was devastated during the war in Croatia in 1991 and consequences of the war can still be seen even 27 years later. (high unemployment, poverty, low social and economic standard of people living there).

That was one of the reason why we decided to make change in area that is in fact very beautiful and has lot of potential. Other reason was that there are no adequate and available programs and services for children and their families that can give them support and give an answer to their needs.

That's why we started working with children in Vukovar, first in elementary school and now we rented this house because of more possibilities for quality work and support.

Our house needs furniture, household appliances, dishes, towels, school and educational materials, food, hygienic products... and we have budget only for rent and working programme... but what we also have is an enormous wish and will to make the change and give support to group of amazing children that we are working with for the past year and answer to their needs.

This house is a place that will represent supporting home for 14 children age 7-12 starting from October 1st.

A place where they are important and where someone takes care of them.

A place of possibilities...

* to make and have a meal, to take a
bath, to wash and iron their clothes...
* to learn new things: life skills (cooking, cleaning, taking care of own hygiene and health, sewing, planting and caring for plants, ...) artistic skills (making usefull things from various materials,) communication skills...

* to get help and support with school
tasks and homework (learning to learn, learn to read and write, have individual aproach, developing working habits...)
* to make new frieds.

* to spend free time in a quality way

* to learn how to be independent, confident, responsaible, compassionate and strong person

* to learn that they are perfect just
the way they are
