Major Series to support SAS

"Not again", I said, wanting to forget what I had just heard. The news headlines continued to drone on...another ongoing trial, investigation, case of child prostitution, sexual exploitation, abuse ... right on my doorstep..UK.

Over the past few months we have had a constant stream of 'grooming' cases reported in the UK media. Childline figures published in the 2012 'Caught in a trap' report suggests reported numbers are only the tip of the iceberg. Victims of abuse suffer in silence especially in communities where subjects like sexual abuse are considered taboo and are not reported for fear of the stigma that it brings.

Help is at hand...

The SAS (Sikh Awareness Society) is a community based non-profit organisation set up in the late 1990's. Amongst other projects it has provided confidential support, counselling and rehabilitation to victims and families, set up outreach programmes and raised awareness in universities and colleges nationwide. Since the BBC broadcast of the Inside Out London episode highlighting these issues the SAS has had a huge hike in demand for its already stretched services.

Is there anything I can do...

This October a small team of average Joes are dusting off old trainers and stepping up to take on the military challenge better known as the Major Series. The run is riddled with obstacles, hills, mud and water. We chose this challenge because of the apt title and the camaraderie and teamwork needed along the way. I humbly request, dig deep and donate to this worthy cause. We won't miss a few quid out of our pocket but it could mean a world of a difference to a child trapped by exploitation. Working together we can make that difference.
