Campaign Story
Help us to help Maimona and Mohamed!
(UPDATE: due to technical issues, please click here to donate from our organzation's website, http://step-in-project.org/ .Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for the support!)
Maimona and Mohamed are two siblings affected by Epidermolysis bullosa a disease that makes their skin hypersensitive. As a result, they are constantly covered in blisters and are their extremities are wasting away.
We first visited in May last year and have been keeping tabs on them since. They live in a very small room with their two sisters, mother and handicapped father. Their mother takes care of them all day every day, washing the wounds and loving like only a mother can.
How can you help?
Maimona and Mohamed's condition is currently incurable, but creams and ointments can reduce the pain and the extent of the blisters. Precisely, the children need 1 tube of SUPIROCIN and 1.5 tubes MEBO cream per day to clean and heal the blisters on their skin. They also require frequent injections of Norditropin, a growth hormone. Mohamed is 15 years old, and Maimona is 11, but as is evident in the recent photo above, their growth is compromised. In total, their treatment costs around 2200$ per month. However, their family has no income and no way to cover the costs.
We want to raise money for them for three months worth of treatment. Though it sounds like a lot of money, if you contribute with 10 USD we will only need other 599 people to do the same! Share this with your friends and on social media, before you know it, we'll have the money!
And who are we?
Our organization is called STEP-IN. We are a Slovakian healthcare NGO delivering care to thousands of Iraqis, Kurds and Syrians displaced by ISIS after 2014.
We run three clinics offering free primary healthcare and a program which follows individual patients who need more expensive and complex treatment. The program is called HandSAP (Healthcare and Social Aid Program). The video above briefly explains how it works.
As this programme expands we need more people to support our patients! Often treatments costs far exceed our available budget per patient, so we need your help to make up for the rest. Rest assured, 100% of your donations are put directly towards the treatment costs of our patients (all our administrative and running costs are covered by formal grants).
If you want to read other stories and know more about the project please check our blog at http://blog.step-in-project.org/ or visit our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/stepin.iraq/. Also, if you have further questions or want to get in touch, our e-mail is [email protected].
From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
