My name is Thabisa Magaba, I am from the Kayamandi Township in Stellenbosch near Cape Town. I have matriculated in Kayamandi High School in 2006 and am looking for donations for my studies to build my career.
In 2008-2009 I have participated in a programme under the Computer School, Boland College, initiated by the Department of Social Development. The modules were End-User Computer, Life Skills, Cultural Diversity and Community Development. . I have more than six years of experience in local government administration, but I do not have further qualifications which makes it very difficult for me to progress in the municipal administration where I am working at this moment. Whenever there are posts advertised within the municipality, they only consider the people who have the necessary qualifications. It is very difficult for me to get a loan or a bursary, because I am a temporary worker as from 2017. My daily duties include keeping records, managing the filing system, typing correspondence (mostly email), ensuring the smooth running of the economic hubs, administration, managing the sustainability of the affordable business traders, marketing and allocation of rental space, and developing lease agreements for tenants.
I have been accepted by the University of the Western Cape to study the Advanced Diploma in Public Administration in the Government School. This study I aim to do at the UWC is a huge opportunity for me to build my career so that I can be able to grow and expand my skills.
The University wants 50% of the total cost before the 15th of January 2020, which is R22000. The whole course cost is R44000 for 2020 which includes registration, tuition and course materials:
- Registration fee 2020 R1500.00·
- Introduction to Governance and Public Adm R 7083.33
- Public Policy R 7083.3
- Managing Information and Communication R 7083.33
- Leadership and Managing people R 7083.33
- Managing Operation in the Public Sector R 7083.33
- Economics and Public Finance R 7083.33
The salary (R6300 per month) that I am getting here at work is not enough for me to afford the study. I will bear some of the costs myself, e.g transport and other study needs. I am a single parent of two daughters (15 years and 7 years). I have to support them and my mother is a government social pensioner, so they are all depending on my salary. I have also asked my relatives to donate, but their income is generally not so high.
Thank you for reading my request and for considering to help me, you are more than welcome to keep in contact me on my email [email protected] so i can keep you updated on my studies from time to time.
