Madel’s Journey to the Ironman 70.3 World Championship

Hi there!

I'm Madel, a triathlete from Los Baños, Laguna and this coming September 7, I will be representing the country in the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.

Ironman 70.3 consists of a 1.9km swim, followed by a 90km bike, and finished with a 21.1km run. What makes this race so special for me is that not only am I given the opportunity to compete against triathletes from all over the globe, but I will also be the youngest Filipina to do so. I was able to qualify my World Championship slot from Ironman 70.3 Langkawi last year where I won second place in the female 18-24 age category.

Now that my visa has been granted, the pressure to prepare physically, mentally, and financially is on. Last semester, I sold brownies and applied as a student assistant in my university so that I could (in my smallest ways) raise funds for my upcoming race.
