Dear Family and Friends, ❤

We can't say thank you enough!

It has been a tough and challenging time for us as a family with the unexpected sickness of our dear loved one Ma. Rosario Cruz, when she was diagnosed with cancer one month ago. We have been caught entirely off guard, both mentally and financially. Still, it has made a difference from all the heartfelt prayers, the outpouring of love, words of encouragement, and the continuous support you have showered us over the past month.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone as we share her cancer update and share some good news.

PROCEDURE:

After the Endobronchial Ultrasound and Biopsy procedure, the pulmonary mass in her right lung was confirmed to be malignant. Rose had to stay in the hospital for a week to undergo different tests to determine the kind of cancer she had and the proper treatment she needed.

With the past donations and help that we received, she has been able to carry through all the necessary procedures;

  1. WHOLE ABDOMEN SCAN
  2. TOTAL BODY BONE SCAN
  3. CYTOLOGY BIOMARKERS

RESULTS:

Rose was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma, Stage 4 Lung Cancer.

WHOLE ABDOMEN CT SCAN- her cancer has not spread to her other organs. (Good news!)

TOTAL BODY BONE SCAN- unfortunately, her cancer has already spread to her shoulders, collarbones, and ribs, front and back.

CYTOLOGY BIOMARKERS- Took five tests from the specimen during her biopsy. To identify Rose's abnormal conditions and staging the extent of disease as an indicator of disease prognosis and for the prediction and monitoring of response to an intervention.

The results showed that Rose is a good candidate for Targeted Therapy.

This kind of treatment is less toxic to healthy cells than traditional chemotherapy.

(Another good news!)

TREATMENT and REHABILITATION:

Targeted Therapy will be the kind of medicine to treat Rose's cancer.

Targeted Therapy means Rose has to take the prescribed oral pill.

Oral pills will not destroy the good, normal healthy cells in her body. It will directly target and treat the cancer cells in her lungs and bones. It will delay and prevent tumors from growing and spreading throughout the body, and It helps the immune system destroy cancer cells.

And the most important thing is, (BEST NEWS OF ALL!!) She will not need any radiation or traditional chemotherapy. She will not undergo surgery anymore. Targeted Therapy has fewer side effects than conventional chemotherapy. Rose will have a chance to enjoy life and live longer with continuous proper medication and maintenance, a healthy diet, family support, and rehabilitation! Since cancer has spread out to her bones, aside from the oral pill that she needs to take daily, Rose will also need an add-on medication to protect her remaining healthy bones from deteriorating, making them denser, stronger, and thick through a Bone Modification Therapy using Zoledronic Acid once a month.

To monitor the pill's effectiveness, she would need to undergo monthly laboratory procedures and tests, like lipid profile, CBC, bun, creatinine, Ionized calcium, and CT Scan.

Rose started taking the pill last May 12, and In just ten days of taking the medication, CT Scan results show that her tumor has lessened in size! Her shortness of breath has improved dramatically, her coughing up blood has stopped, and her ribs' inflammation and pain have decreased. She can now move little by little around the house, she can now eat without vomiting, and she is now smiling! She has the will to live!

Taking her prescribed pills has shown significant improvement in her health, and this pill needs to be taken for the rest of her life. It will be her maintenance to sustain and support her treatment.

Her medication, Therapy, rehabilitation, and tests will cost Php40,000 (Philippine peso) a month for the rest of her lifetime. Treatment includes the oral pill - Gefitinib, the Bone Modification Therapy - Zoledronic Acid and Caltrate, and all the required tests.

With this, we ask for your continuous praying and constant support.

We humbly continue to ask your help to fight this battle with Rose.

We would be so grateful if you could assist us with whatever support you could offer to sustain her medical needs.

Your donation and fundraising will go toward her monthly maintenance and medical costs/expenses.

Fighting cancer is not an easy battle, but this will never be impossible as we believe that miracles happen every day through God's grace. You have been with us since the start of Rose's battle with cancer, and we draw our strength from all your prayers and support. Rose was able to carry on with the treatment because of your help.

Seeing her way to recovery and smiling again gives us the reason to fight, and we remain hopeful! We celebrate each day that we get the chance to spend with her. Please help us continue this fight one day at a time and try to win it!

Rose would like to extend her gratitude to everyone offering prayers and help personally, and May God shower you with blessings for all your kindness and generosity! 🙏
