Piccolino,

No, non è giusto.

- www.weworld.it

  • Al-Haq is a Palestinian non-governmental organisation, established in 1979 to protect and promote human rights and the rule of law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). In a context of systematic violation of individual and human rights, Al Haq's work is fundamental to ensure legal protection to the Palestinian people. www.alhaq.org
  • Gaze Free Style is an Italian association based in Gaza that uses street art and disciplines (circus, skate, hip hop...) to give Gaza's children and youngsters an opportunity of expression and freedom. ----------------------------------------------------ENGLISH----------------------------------------------------

Little sweetheart,

you were born on May 15, on a Saturday, late at night. For the first interminable seconds you were deafeningly silent. You didn’t move, didn’t cry, didn’t breath. The midwives and the doctors had to act quickly, took you away from our arms and reanimate you for the longest seconds of our lives. During that silence, our hearts stopped as if they could not beat anymore if yours didn’t.

It's true what they say: nothing in life can compare to the love you feel for your child. The intense happiness. The need to protect him, to wrap him in your arms. The willingness to give your own life for his.

In another part of the world, at the same time of your birth many other mothers and fathers suffer from a similar kind of anguish. But whilst ours lasted a minute theirs last a lifetime. The day of your birth, Palestinians around the world commemorated 73 years of Nakba. Nakba is the day after the expiration of British protectorate over Palestine, the date in which any hope of self-determination of the Palestinian people was stepped on and an endless chain of suffering and despair fell on that region. In the very moment in which your first cry filled our hearts with joy, the crying of children in Gaza were drown out by the infernal noise of deadly air raids.

Dear Lupo, a warm nest, a soft blanket, and a loving sister await you, together with a life of opportunities in a safe and protected environment. When you’ll go out to discover your place in the world, you’ll find out that life is more than what you see at home or learn at school. You’ll notice that the opportunities you have are not available for everyone and everywhere. No, it’s not fair, and that's why we think it's important to use them, to change things, and fight any injustice, suffered by anybody, though far from home.

Growing up in a safe environment is a privilege that many children do not have, but which every child, wherever in the world, is entitled to.

This is why we invite our friends and family that would like to give you a present, not to give any object, but to contribute to your first fundraiser. So that your first cry can contribute to bring some relief in Gaza too. Sure, this alone won’t change things for good, but will be a first step of a longer journey of change that we hope you will walk through your whole life.

With love,

Mom and Dad
