Campaign Story
Update: Having talked to the family we have changed focus. We were a bit ambitious so...we are focusing on more specific goals: a second hand washing machine, some help with moving costs and anything left over - baby food. Baby Lucas is ready to come and all is going well. I'd love to show their gorgeous faces but being a refugee means having to be careful with online images.
Baby Lucas is going to be born late February. He will be the new member of a lovely Sri Lankan refugee family in Hong Kong. They need to move to a bigger home. Currently they are in a 150sqft 7th floor walk up with no washing machine and the kitchen directly beside the bathroom. Extra storage is in the stairwell. The two other brothers share a single loft bed. Mum and Dad are squeezed into a double room. Where is baby Lucas going to sleep?
I'm Cameron, a friend of the family, and have known them since they made it to HK. The middle man ran off with their money and they have been here ever since. No one wants to be a refugee and they certainly want to start their life, but they are in limbo waiting for the HK court to decide their fate. They are not allowed to work or volunteer and, although they have done their best to make it a home, so much of their time is spent in this small apartment with no room for any activities to make life a bit more interesting. The monthly assistance from the government is of course welcome, but sadly not enough and refugees get no extra support in these Covid times. I'm helping as much as I can, but I'm also leaving HK in August. I will continue to support them from overseas, but I will need to get a job first myself. Many kind people in HK have donated all the baby equipment and clothes already. What I am asking for on their behalf is any donation, no matter how small, to add towards the allowance from the government, to go towards rent for an extra bedroom. A village house would be ideal as they could grow pot plants and the boys could get outside more and they could hopefully get some sunshine coming in. And have a washing machine

Bigger place to live now
Update posted by Cameron Darcy at 07:47 amRight. Now the hunt is on for a bigger substandard home to replace their current one. We have all been hunting and had so many rejections due to ...... a preference for local people. We may have a place that is basic and needs some work but has some space
