ACTS CAFE @ Desker Road is solely operated by MAKARIOS PTE LTD. It works as a social enterprise, taking care of the Study Centre and Bangladeshi Ministry organized by WORLDWIDE TRANSFORMATION LTD, a NGO. It also works with Healthserve, ALSO A NGO, who are providing free lunch meals to injured MIGRANT workers once a week. We serve 60-80 covers every Thursday.

Through the months of observation, I have realized that more could be done to provide meals to the elderly, and needy especially foreign migrant workers, some injured, some not, who are coming to our cafe to ask for food or a coffee or tea. One day, a few months back, I encountered an elderly lady who had a bad injury on her left leg, along Rowell Road (LITTLE INDIA). As I spoke to her, she was asking me where she could have a meal. I took her to the WORLDWIDE TRANSFORMATION LTD Office at 37 Veerasamy Road where there was an organized lunch for the Elderly Care Ministry. Later, I received a call from one of the volunteers asking if I could provide at least one meal a day for this same lady, for as long as she needs and she has found a sponsor for the meals. Of course, I said it was not a problem at all. As such, my mind has been occupied, during the past two-three months, with the idea of starting a Free Meal Program.

I have worked on a Monthly Meal Card which would provide to the beneficiaries, which can help to lighten their financial load and sharing Hope by offering them a nourishing meal daily. This is be a project that can be long-term sustaining, working with organizations or individuals from other communities, for Love Little India. We can initiate this project in partnering you, for the benefit of the needy and especially senior citizens, and foreign migrant workers, in and around Little India.

Previously, I was involved in a fundraising project initiated by the Rotary Clubs in Singapore and their “Meals From The Heart” project brought together hawkers in Boon Lay Hawker Centre who provided cooked food to the seniors and needy. The cost of providing a simple meal is three dollars.

I am confident we can work to continue this legacy. The cost of providing a simple meal comprising of rice, meat and vegetables, will still be three dollars, and this will also include a bottle of 330ml still water. We hope to include a homemade cooked soup once or twice a week. The LoveLittleIndia Free Meal Card will be distributed free to designated beneficiaries.

We hope that you will be able to take part in this exciting project and we hope to reach out and brighten the lives of the less-fortunate by alleviating hunger. In order to meet our mission and provide services in Little India, we rely on the generosity of individuals, churches and businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we wouldn't be able to serve those in Little India.

We ask that you make a commitment to support our appeal by making a cash donation. We hope that you will be able to make a contribution. Your generosity will make a difference in our community in Little India, by allowing us to start and continue in our work.Remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of size.
