Love for Elizabeth Carin

On January 27 last year, my mother Elizabeth Carin was admitted at St. Vincent Hospital in Cebu City, Philippines as she complained of shortness of breath, fatigue and pain on her chest. She already had cough and felt weak the days prior, but we initially dismissed it thinking it was not serious. However, as days went by things only got worse. She stayed at the hospital for two weeks and we found out she was experiencing pleural effusion (commonly referred to as “water on the lungs,” where there is an unusual amount of fluid around the lung/s), so we had the fluid drained. Much to our dismay, the fluid extracted was full of blood. By then my mom's doctor informed us that something was wrong and that it was a probable case of Lung Cancer. She was discharged and we were referred to pulmonologist Dr. J. Guardiario from Chong Hua Hospital still in Cebu. We had an initial check-up with Dr. Guardiario by March of the same year, but never got to proceed with any medical procedure because Covid-19 was beginning to peak in the Philippines by then. My mom only got to see the doctor again this year, and he requested for a biopsy. Unfortunately, it was clarified that she indeed has Lung Cancer– and worse– at Stage 4.

While the world continues its battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, things have become so much harder for our family. We have exhausted all our resources, efforts, and money for Mama's medications, laboratory tests, check-ups and other medical procedures– but they couldn't be enough. With this, our family humbly asks for financial support from anyone who may be able to lend their help in giving my mother a second chance at life. No words would suffice to express the utmost gratitude our family feels for everyone who has, is, and will be joining us in our hardest battle yet.
