Love for Ashley

Ashley has post infectious encephalitis. Basically what this is is swelling to her brain due to the flu. Her body was so sick and her antibodies were working so hard that they basically went on overpower and began attacking her own brain.

Ashley began losing balance and couldn’t sit or stand without falling and talking very slurred. This was extremely scary! I felt like I was losing my daughter right before my eyes.

Treatment for this is usually successful, though can be a slow process. Our first treatment is to give her a high dose of steroids through IV so they get to her brain quicker. These steroids should allow the brain to settle down and have her brain go back to normal. There are some other injections she can get shall the team feel necessary.

Ashley has a long road in front of her, which may include some time at a rehab to ensure she can safely function at home and in school.
