Hi everyone I’m Charlotte, I am 19 and after a long legal and admin battle over the past year I finally got guardianship my 6 year old little brother Liam, in February. We were put in homes and foster care after losing our parents in a tragic accident that neither of has recovered from. We were unfortunately separated in the system because of our big age disparity. When I turned 18 early last year I got a job so the I could go about getting guardianship of my Liam. As I didn’t have a lot of information I learned that I needed stable residence. Thanks to the help of a elderly couple I was a rent out a back-house very affordably, and started the long battle to get guardianship of Liam.

On Sunday, March 3rd Lee County in Alabama was struck be the deadliest tornadoes in the past 6 years. Many homes and building have been destroyed, more than 17000 people lost electricity and worst of all we have lost 23 of our county’s residents.

Liam and I were part of the residents that lost their homes, we had been staying in a shelter for a few days when the day to meet up with the DCFS worker. Upon hearing about the loss of residence, I was informed that I might have to give up Liam because we have lost our house and sure enough last week the DCFS worker confirmed that Liam would be taken from me again on April 1st. This is immensely emotional as we had gotten very close again over the past month and it will be a lengthy and costly process to get him back.

I am turning to crowdfunding because I am desperate. I am still in debt from the process of getting guardianship of the Liam the first time and attending night school because I’m trying to get some form of tertiary qualification. The money raised will go securing housing, paying of the debt and financing the legal battle to get guardianship of Liam the second time.

I haven’t lost hope but I’m desperate.
