LIVE-Run Ci vuole fegato!

Sono Veronica. Ho 16 anni.

A settembre scorso ho scoperto di avere un carcinoma epatico metastatico.

La mia vita è cambiata nel giro di 24 ore: la notte prima dormivo nel letto di una casa di vacanza, la notte

dopo nel letto di un ospedale.

Attualmente per il mio percorso terapeutico sono seguita da due strutture nazionali di eccellenza:

l’OSPEDALE BAMBINO GESU’ di Roma (www.ospedalebambinogesu.it ) , l’ospedale e centro di ricerca

pediatrico più grande d’Europa che dai 4 bambini del 1869, quando è nato, è arrivato ora a curarne ogni

anno oltre 1 milione e 500 mila;

e

l’ISMETT (www.ismett.edu ), il centro trapianti e terapie ad alta specializzazione di Palermo, punto di

riferimento per il Sud Italia che fa ricerca insieme all’Università di Pittsburgh ed in collaborazione con

equivalenti istituti medico-scientifici nel mondo.

In entrambe le strutture, tutto il personale è altamente qualificato sia a livello professionale che umano:

quando sono ricoverata sono tranquilla e mi sento in buone mani.

Auguro a nessuno di avere esperienze come la mia, ma purtroppo questa malattia continua a colpire a tutte

le età e in tutto il mondo; la vita cambia in un attimo e può riguardare anche familiari, parenti e amici.

Solo con l’impegno di ognuno di noi si può pensare di prestare cure adeguate ai malati e supporto a medici

e scienziati per mettere a punto terapie sempre più efficaci.

Esorto tutti a finanziare con qualsiasi cifra questi Ospedali e Centri di Ricerca dove io ho avuto esperienze

positive. Se non potete farlo, almeno divulgate e sensibilizzate più persone possibili su questo argomento.

Bisogna mantenere sempre alta l’attenzione.

L’unione fa la forza e ce n’è tanto bisogno per sconfiggere questa malattia.

Ci vuole fegato per sopportare la malattia e le terapie per fronteggiarla.

I sacrifici, le paure, i dolori sono all’ordine del giorno.

Ci vuole fegato per dire NO anche quando si vorrebbe dire SI’.

Ci vuole fegato per dire SONO PRONTA anche quando non lo sei.

Ci vuole fegato per dire NON HO PAURA anche quando stai tremando.

Io ci ho messo il fegato ! Voi metteteci la testa e il cuore !

My name is Veronica. I am 16 years old.

Last September I was diagnosed with metastatic HCC Hepatocarcinoma.

My life changed and in 24 hours I went from sleeping in a Holiday home with my family one night to sleeping in a hospital bed the night after.

At present my therapy is performed by two excellent national structures:

OSPEDALE BAMBIN GESU' in Rome, the biggest pediatric hospital and research centre in Europe that went from 4 kids in 1869, when it was founded, to the1.5 million that treats today,

and

ISMETT, a highly specialized centre for transplants and therapies, in the South of Italy that runs research programmes in collaboration wiht the University of Pittsburgh and other medical institutions Worldwide.

When I am hospitalized I feel secure and in good hands, all the staff are highly qualified both professionally and personally.

I don't wish anyone to live my experience but unfortunately this disease affects all ages everywhere in the world, life changes in a second and it changes also for the parents, relatives and friends.

Only with the commitment of everyone of us can provide adequate care to the sick people and supports to the doctors and scientists to find better and more effective therapies.

I am asking each and everyone of you to support with any amount these Hospitals and Research Centres where I and many others have been treated and supported through these difficult times, in the most positive way. If you cannot do it at least spread this message and enable as many people as possible to get this message and understand this disease.

We need to keep the attention high.

Unity is strenght and you need a lot of strenght to fight this disease.

Strenght to live with the disease and the intensive therapies required to fight it.

Strenght to say NO even when you want to say YES.

Strenght to say I AM READY even when you are not.

Strenght to say I AM NOT AFRAID even when you are shaking.

I am giving my strenght! Please give your head and your heart!
