"SCHOOL OF ART AND SPIRITUALITY FOR BOYS AND GIRLS"
The supreme goal of humanity must be the smile of children!
The Traveling School of Art and Spirituality was founded in 2013 in Lima, Peru, by Sebastián Verdú Elías, (which is the pseudonym of writer of Edgar Omar Diaz Seibt), also founder of the Ancestral Home. The School is born from heart to heart and is made for children from the most vulnerable areas of the country. The project has developed over the years a series of artistic and pedagogical activities in the poorest communities of the capital and other cities such as Huancavelica, Pucallpa and Huancayo. This act of solidarity has as its main mission the empowerment of the human rights of children with limited resources. Through daily art classes that also serve to keep children away from the threats of crime and drugs,
It is worth mentioning that all workshops, courses, implementations, theater festivals, parties and other activities are totally free for children. Thus, as the tools used for the different workshops. For about 4 years we have 2 campuses in Lima with about 50 students a day. Where we have also held 5 international theater and puppet festivals for children. One of the reasons for the project is to encourage the children to participate in the decisions of the project, through intervention and discussion in assemblies, where the children discuss their daily tasks and problems. Another of the most important axes for the School is the care of the Pachamama. At each beginning of class, we do a small but symbolic ceremony with all the children, in this way we honor the feminine energy of the sacred Mother Earth. And not lose our ancestral roots and the meaning of life.
We learn by playing, it is our teaching methodology. In our project we do not impose any authoritarian regulations on children. The various teachers, collaborators, are instilled with respect and the uniqueness of teaching from love and serving as a bridge for creation. The courses we offer are: Theater, dance, painting, photography, percussion, crafts, singing, guitar, games, juggling, recycling, literary creation.
One of the (long-term) goals is to implement the reforestation program in rural areas with the motto: "Adopt a tree." It consists of promoting that a person, a company, a family or a group of people adopt a tree. Then the community child will be in charge of sowing it and caring for it. This plan should be developed in stages and have constant evaluation.
The methods of financing the project have been the voluntary contribution of friends, spiritual sisters and families, and especially the money of the founder himself.
In this new stage that will begin in June 2021, in the town of Huaran Cusco we want our project to be sustainable, for this we want to buy a land where we can build our headquarters and implement an organic bio garden that will serve as a support to the project, and place of lodging of our collaborators and visitors.
About the founder: Sebastián Verdú Elías, was born in Lima, he is a writer, he has published his books: “Buscadores del Sol” and “A life without doubles”, he is also a photographer, musician, he belongs to the Pucayacu Theater Group. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the founder was left without two of his jobs, with which he financed the project. That is why we launched this charitable fundraising initiative for the Traveling School to start this year. The required sum is 15.000 thousand dollars. We thank all our friends and sisters who want to join this beautiful and supportive initiative to help children.
