                                                 Sommer and Me

Our Story

My name is Jean-Sébastien & that's me and my wife Sommer back when she could smile! Sommer has a very RARE Bone disease and she has been through so much in her young years. We are now in our early 30s and have been married for 12yrs...and she has spent 8 of our Anniversaries in the hospital. Sommer has had well over 25 major surgeries including hip replacements and spinal decompression surgeies, plus countless other medical procedures, and years of physical therapy. She is only 3ft 7 and as you can see I stand a bit taller at 6ft1! We try to live a normal life and don't ask for much nor do we need a lot to be happy. We are so blessed to have a home, which we work hard for and have been blessed to use our home to help others in need (Sommer is most happy when we are able to help others & when are able to just enjoy each other's company). We also have loving friends and family who are helping us to get the word out. In the past few years Sommer is just now at a point where she is not in so much pain from her back and hip replacements. She works hard to exercise her muscles & has learned to walk all over again! She is learning to enjoy herself & live a better life! However, there is one surgery left to be done before we can start our family. Sommer's bone disease has attacked her jaw bones and is rapidly wearing them away. The bones in her Jaw and Mouth need to be stabilized as well as permanent dentures placed in her mouth as it has also worn away her teeth immensely. It's not just a cosmetic problem, all the nerves in her teeth are exposed and she has constant pain, headaches, problems eating, and a severe bone infection...because of the infection she cannot fight off any other germs that come her way and she stays sick constantly. We, along with her doctors, have tried for the last year and a half to get our medical insurance to cover the surgery but they will not do so because our insurance company does not possess the proper codes & processing manner to process the surgery as anything other than a "Dental surgery" and they do not intend to implement a process to help us or anyone else. Even though Sommer stays constantly sick and under doctor's care because of the damage to her bone and teeth, and it is obvious it is caused by her Bone disease, they will not reconsider. She has lost a lot of teeth and is embarrassed to go out in public although she tries to put on a brave face and positive attitude. I have watched her go from my once outgoing wife to shy, sickly, and timid. We are still paying medical bills from previous surgeries and the dentists do not offer payment plans. We get barely get by every month with all of her medical bills and it would take years and years to save for what we need...years she does not have. If you can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated!

If we are able to raise the money we need, we will blog our process, take pics, video, and inform you of every step of her journey!

If this happens for her, I will see my sickly, weak, timid wife who doesn't go out anymore, go back to her wonderful, beautiful, outgoing self! She she can get back in action making people smile and helping others! She also sings, does a lot for the church,  and makes awesome sculptures..so she will be able to do that again and contribute to the world her talent! She had a beautiful smile...I can't wait to see her smile again! We will also be able to finally start a family since this will be one of the last surgeries she requires! If this does not happen, the bones will continue to deteriorate and she will stay constantly sick, eventually lose her ability to have any kind of implants, lose the ability to chew, or even speak. Sommer will still find a way to smile and make me smile but she will it will be hard living with constant medical problems and not being able to have a family...something we would love so dearly.

The longer we wait, the worse the condition and the more expensive it gets to fix. It is already become worse while waiting on the insurance. Right now the surgeons want half of the surgical amount of $20,000 which is of course $10,000. Then the prosthetic denture has an added cost of $25,000 and we are not sure yet about what our payment options for the prosthetic will be, if any at all. With your help, I can bring so much joy and life back to my beautiful wife!

Please pass this along to anyone you think could spare even a dollar! You can really change her life! You have no idea how much joy and happiness you will bring to her, her family, and me! You can always offer words of encouragement to her as well in the comment section because that in itself means a lot! Thank you so much!
