Campaign Story
I am Rokas Liaugaudas and I am seeking to use my last chance to represent Lithuania in the FAI Junior World Gliding Championship 2019.
I grew up in the Pociunai airfield – since an early age one of my biggest dreams has been to represent my country at the highest level gliding championships.
In 2010, I got my glider pilot license. Not long after, I attended my first gliding competition. During the years of accumulating gliding experience, an opportunity to represent the Junior Team of Lithuania came along the way…
JWGC 2013 (Poland) – my first chance was gone because of my dad’s accident, after which he still has to sit in a wheelchair. Both of us mutually handled all the issues and eventually came back to gliding.
JWGC 2015 (Australia) – the championship took place on the other side of the world and after a lot of struggle and consideration, I had to accept that it was not reachable neither financially nor timewise – it took too much time while studying medicine at university.
JWGC 2017 (Lithuania) – a highest-level championship in my native Pociunai airfield seemed like a perfect opportunity to finally fulfill my dream, but I was mentally drained after a new misfortune in my family. My mom was diagnosed with an abruptly developing neurodegenerative disease, leaving her incapacitated and totally dependent on the care of the family members.
JWGC 2019 (Hungary) – it’s the last year when I’m still considered a junior in gliding and this year I will surely represent the name of Lithuania at the highest level championship. I will be flying with a competitive glider “Pegase 101A” and I’ll be having the very best ground team, with which Lithuanians have won two medals in the JWGC 2017. I have accumulated a fair amount of experience in various gliding competitions, but from a young age I know that if I want to reach the best results, I will need to have the highest level preparation – that’s why I’m asking for your help.
A quarter of the desired amount would be used for trainings and preparation competition. Half of the amount is needed for technical preparation, logistics, insurance and settlement in Hungary expenses, while the remaining quarter would be used for the JWGC taxes for tows.
Please participate in the realization of my dream and spreading the name of Lithuania around the world. Thank you!
