Campaign Story
Having started running 18 months ago, I now feel bionic and have entered, along with my cousin Lana, the Manchester 10k which takes place on Sunday May 10th. I am running to raise money for my niece Lisa, who sadly 2 years ago was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis - total hair loss including eyebrows and eyelashes. She is now 10 years old. Money raised will help fund a "hair system" for Lisa so she has the option of having hair. Unfortunatley there is limited government funding to the tune of £400.00 a year or alopecia sufferers but the wigs provided by the NHS are totally unsuitable for children, leaving them open to further ridicule, and so the only viable option is to purchase hair systems privately. As Lisa grows, new hair systems will be needed to fit her head as she enters her teenage and adult years. Lisa is an amazingly positive young girl who with the support of her equally amazing 7 year old sister, Ruby, copes as best she can with this cruel condition. Money raised will be put towards the costs of future hair systems for Lisa - average cost £3500.00 per system - and help ease her personal daily battle. So, if you can spare some change and let me do the road pounding, your cash support will help a very special young lady and niece. THANK YOU!!!
