The Scout Philharmonic of the Limassol District Council was established in the 1960s under the direction of Stylianos Britsoulis and operated until the early 1970s. With the repatriation of the conductor in Greece the Philharmonic ceased to function.
In 2012, the Philharmonic Orchestra is re-launched and directed by Iosif Kartapanis, from the 50th Air Scouts Troop of Mesa Gitonia, with new children all novices from various Limassol Scout Troops.
The Philharmonic consists of approximately 35 members (Cubs, Scouts, Ventures (Explorers), leaders and parents). The Philharmonic has taken part in scouting, social, charity and religious events and has successfully performed in musical concerts both in Cyprus and abroad.
Members of the band participate in educational seminars, camps, and educational trips outside of the Country.
Unfortunately The philharmonic has no means of financial support since its solely based on volunteer work. The children perform with broken instruments, and there are no means on acquiring more instruments for children who want to join the band. In an effort to further develop the band, and be able to give children better opportunities and experiences we are trying to fundraise for new instruments and educational equipment.
By reaching our goals we will be able to:
- Equip the band with new wind and percussion instruments
- Fix all broken instruments
- Buy new music to perform
- Buy consumables such as Clarinet and Saxophone Reeds, Valve and Key oils for Instruments
