Hello, I am trying to raise money for much needed surgery that my girlfriend needs to improve her life. It may not seem as needed as other on the site would or that you may think are in general but having personally seen how this affects her life it is a must.Since she was 16 my girlfriend has suffered from back problems due to the size of her breasts, and since she was 16 she has gradually gained a 'hump' which is shown in the picture. Now she is 20 and still suffers with horrendous back pain and the hump making neck movement hard. Her and her family have been appealing to the CCG (Formerly known as the PCT) about Breast Reduction on the NHS has the back pain stops her from being able to exercise and perform every day tasks including just standing up. For five years they have responded with the same answer "You have to lower your BMI before we consider the surgery" and said no. This is an answer that makes sense if not for the condition that her breasts put her in.Due to the size and weight of her breasts (34K) she cannot perform the simplest of exercises, running is an impossible task. She also suffers from polycystic ovaries which reduce the ability to lose weight through dieting and exercising, adding this to the pure inability to exercise means that it is near to impossible for her to lose weight with the current breast size and back pain.During college she took driving lessons which proved overly difficult as she could not reach the steering wheel due to her breast size and has since given up the idea of driving as she doesn't think she will ever be able to do it. Since school she has been put down due to stares and snide comments out in public which make her depressed and because of this she was put on anti depressants about a year ago. A few weeks back I recieved a phonecall from her whilst I was at work with her in tears saying that they had told her it was a no again. It upsets me, my family and hers that she continuously gets rejected for this much needed treatment, this being the fourth time in a row. Placing this here is somewhat of a last resort as we feel that now the only way to get this surgery done is to raise the money ourselves, but both of us being students and not making enough money to do this means that I need support from others. It angers us that in the past 4 and a half years she has been turned down 4 times and no other expanation has been given, yet there have been reports on the news and in papers of women being given breast ENHANCEMENT surgery on the NHS because they were 'unhappy with their body' and one was even a model needing it for her career. I have also read about how easy it is to get a gastric band fitted on the NHS, once you reach a certain weight, which my girlfriend is under. Although we have made pleas to the CCG about this as well as the fact that the cost of painkillers, doctors appointments, appointed physio and even the cost of the gastric band operation to lower her BMI to recieve breast reduction would be greater than this one operation they continue to refuse. It may not seem like a nescessary surgery but knowing first hand how this has affected her everyday life and her very outlook of it, the surgery would be totally life changing.
