Bringing Life and Hope to Orphans in Kenya.

Hi, my name is James Morara Onchangu. I am a missionary in the Kenya and care for 53 children orphaned by AIDS, poverty, violence, and prostitution.

As you can imagine, poverty in Kenya is staggering--24 percent of the population live on less than $1 per day and because of that, children are often malnourished or neglected, or even sold into the sex trade. Crime and prostitution are rampant, which further spreads HIV/ AIDS and leaves children abandoned and orphaned at a heart-breaking rate.

Right now I am responsible for the care of the 53 orphans (although 100 more could use our help). We desperately need to build a permanent home to keep them safe and off the streets. It is the cry of my heart to build and maintain that, although I don't have the money myself. We need $14,000 USD build a permanent facility to house and care for the children. Although that is a lot for us to come up with, it isn't a lot if we pool our resources. This is very doable.

We are now a certified non-profit NGO (non-governmental humanitarian aid organization. No one receives a salary, and all of the work is done by Kenyan Christian volunteers in the area, so you can rest assured that all of your donations are going directly to the aid of these precious children.

We are asking for your help, on the behalf of these children. My goal is to raise $14,000 for the building, $700 to buy a used motorcycle for transportation, and $300 to buy goats, rabbits, chickens, pigs, and anything we can raise for food.

ORPHAN SITUATION IN KENYA:

Kenya has more than 2 million orphans and vulnerable children. Some struggle with HIV/AIDS and other diseases. More than 100 thousand of them die yearly due to lack of life basic needs, basic health, and hygiene.

THE CAUSE OF ORPHANED CHILDREN:

"Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me" Psalms 27:10

HIV/AIDS:

HIV/AIDS is the main cause of orphaned children in Africa including Kenya. Therefore it is likely to create double the number of orphans than any other cause of death.

POVERTY:

Poverty is the key door to prostitution and robbery in Kenya. Moreover it is the route to HIV/AIDS infection. Due to destitutution, many women are tempted to prostitution to meet their daily needs, abandoning their families.

The village is in Jomvu Jitoni Village in Mombasa County in Kenya. The soil is a mixture of clay soil and sand soil. It is hard to construct a toilet (which is just a hole in the ground), so disease spreads. Children are more vulnerable to diseases than adults especially malaria and cholera.

TRIBAL CLASHES:

The past election violence in Kenya in 2008 caused orphaned children and homeless people until today.

MY HEART AND VISION OVER THE OPPRESSED CHILDREN:

"and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. 11The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail" Isaiah58:10-11.
