Elsofie – I can not even begin to explain what an extraordinary human being she is. Elsofie has

dedicated her life in helping others – always smiling, always opening her heart and home to

everyone and anyone in need.

She is a woman, a mother, a mentor, a wife and a friend.

AND NOW SHE NEEDS OUR HELP

Elsofie fell sick about a year ago. She went to numerous doctors but no one had answers. She had

been in constant pain and discomfort, but knowing Elsofie, not even an illness can stop her.

Despite her illness, Elsofie continued to work relentlessly as things were very tough already with

financial distress and loss of business & assets, as they were in the Tourism Industry. Something like

medical aid wasn’t even an option.

When the Coronavirus hit Cape Town, Elsofie and her husband showed symptoms and decided to

went for testing. Although both tested negative, Elsofie continued to struggled with severe pain in

her neck area, unable to move her neck.

Two days later she was rushed to the nearest emergency room – a private hospital – and landed in

ICU. Although she didn’t have medical aid, her condition was so severe that the doctors feared for

her life and didn’t want to move her to a state hospital.

Elsofie was kept in ICU isolation for more than two weeks and was released only after another week

in general care. The cause of her illness is still unknown.

The scope of her medical bills are astronomical - they simply do not have the capability to recover on

their own. Elsofie needs your contribution, your donation, your help!

She is our mother, our mentor and our friend.

  • Hey, you! For being my first doner and also for the $100 amount, I just want to honestly thank you from my heart. It means the world to me! Not only for that but also kicking off my campaign earns you 2 rewards! You lucky, duck! I will get back to you in a little blog about your choice of reward as I have a specific in mind. For now, I just honestly wanted to say thank you for your positive contribution. Yes, I barely made it, 3 weeks in ICU, 4% chance to survive. My neck was sore, so we went for COVID tests. Neg. Since a spider-bite 3 April last year, I’ve been having skin infections. Not one doctor could treat me, so eventually, I just stayed sick for more than a year. We sold the farm in Dec, moved In Jan & Feb, COVID was announced and 2 weeks later, I woke up with my face, neck and shoulder swelled, hallucinating I could barely walk. Pieter took me to the Emergency Room, where I was placed directly into ICU - Isolation. I had a severe salt deficiency, causing killer bacteria to have a field day. Normal count in body 5, critical 200, mine, 578. I heard they wanted to find out if I might be the highest counting survivor worldwide. Never heard the answer. Pieter was told that if we came an hour later, I would have died, right there. The worst part was whenever not hallucinating, I could not see any visitors (COVID), so not even Pieter or the kids could see me. I truly believed they all died and the doctors just would not tell me. It was terrifying, but in all truth, I’m grateful to be alive in a pandemic. The blockage that formed in my neck, right next to the main artery had to be cut out, so 12cm scar and another just under my shoulder blade, 8x5x3. Lungs filled with water, 3.5kg, kidneys collapsed and it was touch and go for a while. Forse-fed Oxygine while tied to the bed, tilted 15% down created the feeling I could not breathe, was a tad tedious. So, on Marge’s 18th Birthday, 3 June, they reluctantly released me and I did not even bring her a present. Pieter treats me like a queen and I truly enjoyed the attention. I have an appointment on Thursday with a Dermatologists at noon, for skin biopsies. Then we’ll know the true culprit! Dear friend, thank you & adieu. Tomorrow we will talk shop! Hehehehe. It is 2:30 AM, insomnia, so I’ll be trying to get to bed again. See you on the flipside! Elsofie
