Life without Violence - fundraising

We wish our organization didn’t need to exist.

But now Líf án ofbeldis (Life without violence) isn’t merely a temporary movement. Our organization is now receiving messages daily from mothers in desperation trying to get advice and support, to be able to protect their children from violent fathers, which Icelandic authorities have made impossible for them.

The family court system in Iceland continues to force children in visitation and custody of violent and abusive fathers, who are dangerous to their children, who have abused their children physically, emotionally and sexually. Fathers ownership of their children seems to be more important than the human rights of children to be protected against violence. Icelandic children’s law about human rights of children is ignored repeatedly. Children in Iceland don’t get the benefit of the doubt, and their mothers are blamed for their children’s reports of abuse.

Líf án ofbeldis has been run by volunteering mothers and survivors of abuse in childhood, with no funding to this day. Administrators have funded the organization themselves.

Because of increasing demand from mothers and children in desperate need of support, we can’t continue our work without funding. We hope we can collect enough funding to be able to provide more emotional and practical support for the families in need, and that the organization can grow and unite these families.
