Library Project for Tibetan Villages in China

I am a hongkonger. I was a biology teacher in a local secondary school before my secondary daughter was born in 2012. I have been married to my Tibetan husband who was born in Tibet for almost 20 years. We live in Hong Kong now. We ran a private orphanage with around 50 children from 2004 to 2016 in my husband hometown in Sichuan Province in China. We care about education opportunity for Tibetan people. Tibetans have their own written language. It is very beautiful! But it is becoming no practical use in people's life nowadays due to special political situation. For old people, most of them have never seen a book printed in Tibetan except Buddhism scriptures. Even if there is one they probably can't read it because they never learn Tibetan. For young people, they don't need to write or read Tibetan after they leave school unless they become monks, nuns or Tibetan language teachers. Many of them do not even aware these problems because knowing how to write Tibetan do not give them any advantages in their daily lives. Due to the lack of recreational and cultural facilities people have very limited way to access to modern knowledge and information. What make the situation worser is popularity of smartphones in Tibetan villages. So it is very important to encourage them to read books especially Tibetan books. If we give them a library, their world will be enlarged. I also hope this project will encourage Tibetan people to write books in Tibetan.

There are 18 villages in my husband hometown, I want to build a library for each of the village. If this project works out, I hope to do this in other Tibetan areas.
