I am Hannah Imbag-Cristales, mother of a lovely boy Liam Samuel. I delivered my son on Sept. 23, 2018 via normal delivery. He was delivered with a cord loop around his neck and was admitted to NICU to stabilize his breathing and few days later had jaundice. We were discharge after 6 days and everything went well. He had his regular checkups and was considered a well baby. Though, we noticed that his weight gain is slow compared to infants his age.
Few days after he reached 2 months of age he had an episode wherein his lips are turning purple while crying and will eventually get too pale and tired. 2 days later the same episode occurred, we decided to bring him to see a pediatrician cardiologist. His checkup went well and the doctor has diagnosed it as Blue breath holding spells. There were succeeding episodes after that and it is worrying as the frequency increases.
Then Christmas day came, we went through our usual Christmas day routine. We had lunch in the Mall and then another episode happened but this time it was not brief and we had noticed that he was already having seizures. Too long that we decided to rush him to the nearest hospital.
He had to go through series of tests and scans and it was on the third day that were told there is an anomaly in the xray and CT scan of the chest. The hospital arrange an immediate transfer to Manila as the mass on his left lung needs to be addressed as medical emergency.
Currently, our baby is still admitted in the PICU on ventilators and waiting for his oxygen in his blood and sodium level to be stable enough to have another CT scan with contrast to determine how is that mass is attach to his lungs, to know what is the best course of action to remove the mass and to be able to perform biopsy.
Our hospital bills are shooting up and we have no local insurance to cover all the expenses. We are given an estimate of 700k Pesos per 5 days of treatment in PICU plus additional expense for his possible surgery. And we were advised that this will be a long treatment process. We are both working and have our savings but that will not last us long to cover all the expenses and the possible surgery.
Every parent would want their child well and we too want the best for our baby. We are knocking at your hearts and asking for help for us to continue all the procedures our baby needed. No amount is too small and we appreciate if you can also offer prayers for our baby to be strong enough to sustain all the pricking, procedures, and stress of his treatments and for all his doctors and nurses for them to be blessed with wisdom and knowledge to perform all procedures with utmost care and accuracy to determine the best possible course to treat him.
