LGBTQ Youth Camp

Hello All!

I am a young aspiring adult looking to give back to my community in a big,big way! First off, let me say a little about who I am and what I aim to accomplish. 

My name is Dylan K., 

I grew up mostly in MI, but a few other places had a key influence on my life (LA, NY, AR). As you may know MI is still somewhat strongly against gay marriage and equality. As a guy who is gay and living in MI, I know it can be somewhat difficult growing up in a place that you aren't fully accepted in. To this day I still have people drive by my home and yell "fag" out of there window. The benefit though, is that I have many family members, straight allies, and LGBT friends in my life to support me.

Which brings me to my goal.

Not many young people these days have that kind of support. Some kids don't even have a place to live due to family dissownment or abuse. I aim to change that. I wish to start a summer camp that young LGBTQ and there straight allies can go to network and get away from the stresses of living in a homophobic society. This camp will allow young teens and adults an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and gain volunteer/work experience. I aim to also make a cultural facility where each camper will get to learn or embrace another culture/religion. This building will also have housing for campers who have no where else to stay due to parent abandonment or abuse. I also wish to associate my non-profit with local adoption and foster care facilities to help find these children good homes with straight allies/local gay parents who can't have children. 

There is soo much more that I want to do, and hopefully through the kindness of others I can pay it forward to the LGBTQ youth in need.

P.S.

Not all of MI is homophobic. There are many straight allies in this amazingly beautiful state. So please don't get my words wrong or twisted.
