LET THE MUSIC SPEAK

Here I am, standing on stage with excitement in my heart as I wait for the curtains to open.

This is it! The impossible, all of a sudden, doesn't seem so impossible anymore...

But first, let me introduce you to the 6 year old girl with pigtails and a little pink microphone. This was the first time I heard music calling my name. And I loved it! With every song I passionately sang for my parents, I knew that this was home. This was what made me feel alive. When I held that pink microphone, it was like I was holding a world of possibilities in my hand. I knew that I was destined for conveying emotion and stories through melody. But I knew that in order to reach my dream, I would have to put in the work.
So I joined the choir and started with guitar lessons. I never missed a lesson and I practiced continuously, growing in my craft, until I felt ready to step onto stage...
As a 13 year old pre-teen, I left my pink microphone and pig tails behind but felt my passion for music stronger than ever before. It was in this year that my school had an annual talent show and I mustered up the courage to perform on stage for the very first time.

That evening was one of the most memorable nights ever and I enjoyed every single moment on stage and of course I was overwhelmed with nerves, but it was worth it! For it was the start of my dream come true. As the evening passed it was time for the top 3 winners to be announced. To my surprise I got 3rd place, “not too shabby!" It was that same evening my journey towards my career in music became even clearer. I caught my drama teacher’s attention that night and she saw the potential, and told me to consider taking vocal training.

My parents took my drama teacher’s words to heart and I started taking vocal training at her Art School for Drama, Dance and Music and decided that since they had a dance program, I will start with dance lessons as well. That is when I truly discovered my love for the arts and the powerful messages we can portray through them to change people’s lives and also give them something to relate to.

I wasn’t the normal teenage student who spent her weekends going to parties. Instead I always attended Eisteddfods whether it was vocals, dance or drama. After which I either took part in dance competitions or concerts.

Through this season of exploring my love for performing, I have always had this special connection with praise and worship and so I started leading worship in our local church.

Although I love the arts so much, I was still uncertain of what I should study. For me it felt like everybody else had it all figured out, like they planned 10 years ahead and they just knew what career to pursue. Most of the students chose careers with good financial support.

Since then I’ve just asked God where He would want to use me. So I was on my knees for about 2 years until I had the most radical encounter with God at the beginning of 2018, where He gave me a vision of myself standing on a stage praising His name and He told me that I was going to be part of the Worship Ministry. From that day onwards I got confirmation upon confirmation that I should pursue a career in music. I am extremely blessed to have the opportunity to study Music and being able to live out my dream.

During my first year of studies (2019), I worked avidly in all my subjects whilst practicing all my instruments daily. As corroboration for my hard work, I received an award for Best Music student of the year. I also received my Trinity certificate for Gr6 Theory which I passed with Merit.

The best part of my studies is that I still get the chance to serve at the local church. We also get the opportunity to tour twice a year as a student body around South Africa where we serve the youth, as well as the elderly of our country. We visit Primary--, High--, Private-- and Special schools as well as Old age homes.

Using performing arts such as drama, dance and music, we are able to convey a message to which the people can relate to. Afterwards, through fellowship and listening to their stories we are able to help them and many others in need, thus changing their lives for the better.

This is it! The impossible, all of a sudden, doesn't seem so impossible anymore...

This is where it all begins as I kick start into the journey I’ve been dreaming of.

The stage is set, and I’ve got the melody but I need you to fill in the blanks with me. Please help me to find the words to my song by sowing towards my journey.

Are you ready to write some great music with me?
