LET THE MUSIC SPEAK
My name is Karla de Villiers and I am 19 years old. Since I can remember, I have been dancing around the house with my pink plastic microphone in one hand singing passionately with music playing in the background.
Sometimes I would call my parents and tell them to sit down and listen to how I sing. Little did we know I was going to pursue a career in Music.
In primary school I partook in the school choir, started with guitar - as well as - drama lessons. In high school I began taking vocal- and dance lessons. During my high school career, I truly got to know myself better and I discovered my love for performing arts. At the age of 16, I started serving in the church’s band. I love being part of the Praise and Worship team, because one has the privilege to serve others with the talent God has given you and the atmosphere is created through you. Although I love the arts so much, I was still uncertain of what I should study.
At the beginning of 2018, I had an encounter with God where He showed me a vision of myself, standing on a stage praising His name and He told me that I am going to be part of the Worship Ministry. From that day onwards I got confirmation upon confirmation that I should pursue a career in music. I am extremely blessed to have the opportunity to study Music and being able to live out my dream.
During my first year of studies (2019), I really worked hard in all my subjects and practiced all my instruments daily. To confirm my hard work, I received an award for Best Music student of the year.I also received my Trinity certificate for Gr6 Theory which I passed with Merit.
The best part of my studies is that I still get the chance to serve at the local church. We also get the opportunity to tour twice a year as a student body around the country where we serve the youth, as well as the elderly of our country. We visit primary--, high--, private-- and special schools as well as old age homes.
We use performing arts (drama, dance and music) to give a message to the people which they can relate to. Afterwards we fellowship with these broken-hearted people and we listen to their stories. Thus, we can help others in need and change their lives.
To reach greater heights, I do require support and financial assistance to be able to continue with my studies in 2020.Because I am serving on weekends, and because of our busy schedules on campus and preparations for tours etc, there is no extra time for a part time job.My parents will do anything in their ability to support me in reaching my dreams and has paid my first year in full. Unfortunately, business is slow, because of everything just getting more expensive and is therefore difficult to sustain.
