The Sorcerer’s Okoths Untold Story!

Did he go to heaven or hell?

Okoth was a young man from the rural areas of Kenya. A young promising life, he attended church regularly and lived a religious life, Okoth believed all was well until one night while attending a boarding school, an oldmysterious man paid him a visit. Unfortunately, only okoth could see him. This made him seem insane to his peers as they saw him talking to himself.

The old man told Okoth that he had to follow the wishes of his late grandfather. He was so troubled that he decided to visit the clergy in his church to seek for spiritual interventions and guidance, but unfortunate for him all they did were religious rituals that did little to dissuade the old man or ease Okoth’s fears.

One night during the school holidays, the old man appeared to Okoth and gave him two options death or sorcery. He chose death! That very night Okoth died! He could see his body from a distance lying lifeless on his bed and felt like he was floating. He thought he was dreaming until he saw people approaching him, and then realized they were demons. They took him and tortured him endlessly and promised to throw him in a pit of fiery fire. He could literally feel the scorching heat from the pit on his face and heard the agonizing groaning and wailing from others in the pit, he still refused to accept their terms.

Back in the land of the living the family began the traditional way of preserving his body for three days, back in those days his village did not have a morgue; by the third day they were ready to inter him. In a sad twist of fate the very same clergy from the church came to bury him, the closer they got to the grave to bury him, the closer the demons got to the pit of fire. When he realized that they were serious and determined, reluctantly he accepted their offer, and within a flash, life came back to his body in the coffin, he frantically kicked the coffin to try and get the attention of those carrying it, when one of the pall bearers felt something move within the coffin, he let go and ran screaming, the rest followed suit in a panic and Okoth narrates that heliterally fell off the coffin as it was thrown down, and immediately he hit the road running for dear life.

The villagers scampered for safety, Okoth ran away from the village to save the very life he had compromised to keep. He became the object of scorn and scrutiny and was banished from his village forever. He came to Nairobi and lived in a small slum in the heart of the city called Majego, there he begun the journey as the sorcerer or mganga in Swahili. He got married and had 13 children.

When four young students from a missionary school found him in his small Swahili home, to their utter shock and dismay he produced his very own Bible, yet he was a feared and renowned sorcerer of his time, in fact his name was mentioned in whispers, I bet you are wondering what a sorcerer would have been doing with a Bible, they use it to confuse unsuspecting Christians who come to seek for their spiritual services. Okoth then narrated his story of how he tried seeking for spiritual help in the church but never found it, and how he eventually succumbed to the dark forces. He narrated of the devils power with such fear and conviction that it showed in his eyes. He became what he never chose or desired to become.

He later died as a sorcerer, after the meeting. His story was featured on the Daily Nation newspaper of the young man who came back from the dead. The story lies in the national archives in Nairobi.

Imagine if it was your story? We take the Grace of God and the gift of Salvation for granted. There are those who sought for salvation and never got it. Okoth died knowing in his heart he had a chance to be with Jesus, but those who had been given the mandate of leading him to the cross never did. He was a good man who was misunderstood. He knew the truth but never dared to oppose what was pursuing him, because he never knew of the amazingpower of Jesus Christ and His saving Grace.

We are a team of 30 fierce young missioners who have dared at all odds to reach out to the sorcerers through the sorcerer’s ministry, and share the love of Christ with them. Our mission is to let them know that there is a higher POWER….And they have a choice!!!!! It’s not easy but “No weapon fashioned against us shall prosper” For our God is a consuming fire!!!!

We have a mission that will be going to Okoths backyard in Homabay County in Kenya. The mission is dubbed “Operation save the sorcerer”, these are the unreached minorities in the remote villages in Kenya, and our specific mission is to plant a church per sorcerer as a way of evangelizing to the communities.

Sorcery has been known to drag entire communities behind, both spiritually, mentally and financially, because of their belief systems that thrive on ignorance, fear and dire poverty. If we win them for Christ we win not just the community but generations and generations to come.

It’s time to go to the four corners of the world and spread the message of Christ Love, Power and a Sound mind. So far we have travelled to Cameroon, Burundi and Tanzania.

Will you help us save the Okoth’s of these dark and remote villages?

We are hoping to raise 3500$. The funds will go to finance this mission by buying sleeping bags for the missioners, because some of these villages are so remote and poor, accommodation would prove difficult. We will also buy medical supplies, and hire a standby doctor because of the raging mosquitoes…food supplies; hire lighting and sound systems for the mini crusades for two weeks, and planting the church itself.

Did you know that there is usually a three way outcome to reaching out to a sorcerer? He or she either dies after, relocates to another place or receives Christ into their life….We always believes the latter for them…

We are also seeking for bible donations; most of these villagers don’t own a bible. Okoth was wise enough to own one. Lets empower his communities and beyond.

‘’Happy are the feet of they that bring the good news”
