We did it!

For the first time in history, Croatia will be represented at the Winter Olympics in short track speed skating.

After an exciting finale at the last World Cup competition and ten days of uncertainty, the official ISU confirmation was finally announced: Croatia has the right to send one athlete to compete in the women's 500m.

Our girls were very close to earning a starting place in the 1500m as well, but their injuries prevented that from happening. Extremely strong competition and a little bit of bad luck prevented Croatia from qualifying in the men's competition. In some races, they missed out on the points needed to qualify by just a few thousandths of a second.

On December 17th it was decided that our best speed skater, Valentina Aščić, will have the honour of being the first athlete to represent Croatia in this sport at the Winter Olympic Games.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who recognized our efforts and sacrifices and supported us in our efforts to make our dreams come true. Your support, donations and spreading the word about our mission kept us going, and we did our best to make you proud.

Through our fund raising campaign, we raised half the amount of money we needed to cover our expenses. We didn't give up and borrowed the rest. That was the only way to make the most of this unique opportunity, and to justify your generous support. Because of this, we have extended the duration of our campaign. Once again we ask everyone, in the holiday spirit, to help us continue to develop our sport and our work with young skaters with your donation.

Thank you!

Just as a reference, we kept our original post here also

........................................................................................................................................................................

For the first time in history, Croatia has the opportunity to be represented at the Winter Olympics in speed skating!

Based on their results so far, Croatian speed skaters are just one step away from the Olympics. Our national team members spent the past season and summer preparations abroad, but their determination and hard work are not enough. They financed most of the costs themselves but they can't continue this way anymore. Now they need support and help to finance some unexpected additional costs.

The qualifications are just a few weeks away. The introduction of additional conditions for participation have created an impossible financial situation, making the fight for the Olympics seem unattainable. Previously allocated funds, unfortunately, are not sufficient for the planned attendance of five members of the
Croatian national team.

Don’t let all their effort towards the biggest sporting event of all time go to waste because of last minute financial issues. They live and breathe for it! They keep pushing for Croatia and won't give up no matter what.

Make Croatia's Olympic speed skating dream a reality.

Thank you!
