Let’s Save Preemie Baby JD!

On the night of August 24, 2020, my sister-in-law Donna noticed a jelly-like vaginal discharge. Minutes later, she started to experience uterine contractions. In the morning of August 25, 2020, her contractions became stronger every 5 to 8 minutes. She was brought to a Maternity Hospital in San Mateo, Rizal where she was closely monitored. Upon examination by her OB, her cervix was already open at 2cm and her contractions was more regular. Since it is still too early for the baby to come out (approximately 4 weeks more), she was given all the medications needed to keep the baby inside her womb. At night, her uterine contractions relaxed at every 15 minutes interval. However, around 7am of August 26, 2020, Mommy Donna's contractions got stronger with a regular interval of every 5 minutes. Her cervical dilatation also progressed to 3cm. To prevent further complications and possible damage both to her and the baby, this prompted her OB to call for an emergency CS at around 2pm. The stress and anxiety accompanied by this incident opted Mommy Donna and my brother (husband) to sign a consent for tubal ligation which means, she can no longer get pregnant in the future.

Baby JD was born prematurely on August 26, 2020 via Caesarean Section at 33 weeks 4 days. His birth weight is only 1.8 kilograms and is currently hooked to cardiac monitor and with oxygen support at the NICU. Uncertain as life may seem, we are willing to take all the risks needed to keep him alive and recover fully. Mommy Donna on the other hand, is also recovering from the physical and emotional stress brought about by her preterm labor and delivery.

Above all, we surrender all this to our Almighty God who is in total control of everything. We look forward to be able to hold baby JD in our arms and see him grow normally.
