Let’s help Vali

This year for my birthday I want to do something special, so I chose to help a young man who is struggling to survive and therefore needs some help.

His name is Vali (Valentin Schneider), he’s turning 28 this year and for several years has been living on the streets. His mother was struck down by cancer and since then he doesn’t have a place to stay. For a while he slept in the stairwells of blocks but after that he found an abandoned car in front of a block where he lived for four months. That was his house where he kept all his possessions, clothes, identification documents and food (whatever he received from people). A tenant of the block got tired of seeing him there and alerted the authorities to pick up the car. From that moment on, he was left with no assets, but especially no documents. Still trying to find a place to live, he came across some young people who helped him and let him stay in an old house in the Student Complex.

That house has a door that does not lock and has no utilities (electricity, water, sewerage). The house has two rooms, one of which contains a stove, and in that he decided to settle.

During the day Vali goes around the town, trying to make a living, to get some food and wood to warm up. While he is away from home, usually other homeless people come to the house, who enjoy what they find and leave him without some of his belongings.

My story with Vali started in the mid-September of last year when, while coming home one evening, he approached me asking for some warmer clothes for the winter. He also told me that he had been praying to God for a couple of weeks to get a bath. I took him to the house where I was living at that time and let him take a bath, gave him some clothes and food cans. Afterwards I took his luggage and accompanied him to his house and that’s when I saw his living conditions. I've been trying to help him as much as I could.

Lately I've decided to do a bit more for him to help him overcome his condition, to get his papers so he can get a job. This process is ongoing, and hopefully this month will be over.

Until he manages to save money in order to afford a rent somewhere, I want to help him improve his living conditions, to lock up his room, to obtain firewood and food for the next period.

For these I will need your help, and therefore I am kindly asking you to donate money or objects in order to accomplish the following:

- Help him lock up the door of his house

- Wash his clothes

- Clean up his house

- Build a storage place for clothes and other goods

- Buy firewood and set up a storage place for them

- Provide him food and other basic living goods for a while.

I know there are less fortunate people with more serious problems in this world, but I want to help him as much as I can, see him on his feet and living a better life.
