While many know Hong Kong as a wealthy place, many people living here are actually in deep poverty because of the large wealth gap between the rich and the poor. Many people, especially children and elders are living below the poverty line (1.277 million), sleeping in small cage-like "homes", apartments measuring less than 200 square feet sharing bathrooms with as much as 5 families.
We are students at South Island School and are strikingly concerned about how poverty and living in horrid conditions is normalised in Hong Kong. The money collected through this site will be used to provide necessities (medical supplies, clothing, toiletries etc) for those living in poverty.
If we have any remaining money, it will go to various charities that provide support for those in need. Charities such as Feeding Hong Kong that distributes food for the millions of people going to bed hungry everyday.
