Hi! First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. The last 2 years had been a challenging one for my family. From the first instance my sister was hospitalized because of her condition, to financial mistakes that both my brother and I had to endure since last year. Yet we've been managing enough until things took toll for the worse.
Since my sister Ana May Dominique, "Nikki", was hospitalized, my family has been enduring financial struggles due to hospitalization costs. It took her months before the doctors were able to diagnose her with Depression, Functional Neurological Disorder, and a multitude of other diagnosis that hindered her to live a normal life. It has been a depressing 2 years for her. It even came to a point that she has lost control of her lower extremities which required her to use a catheter. Since last year, she has been attending therapy sessions just to regain control of her legs and eventually was able to walk again.
Because of her illness, she has been in and out of the hospital. This already triggered her to try to end her life by overdosing. She has been hard on herself too much that she felt really depressed. It has been a fight not only for her but also for her family physically, emotionally, and most of all, financially. Last year, it already took more than half a million just to cover the diagnostic costs, medicines, and therapy appointments. And up to now we still need more funds to attend to her medical needs.
Our family had decided to raise funds online due to the fact that we can no longer afford to pay for her medication. My mom who has been working as an OFW in Qatar has been shouldering most of my sister's medical needs but it has already taken a toll on all of our finances. We were already forced to charge everything to credit, due to lack of funds, to support her needs. She is now currently undergoing an experimental medical procedure in an attempt to address her suicidal tendencies.
I would also like to address depression in this post as this has already affected not only my sister but also the whole family as well. Depression is not something that we should take lightly as this can make people commit to things that they really don't want to do. It is something that we shouldn't look down to. People with depression needs people who can listen and understand. We may not fully understand what has caused my sister to become how she is now, but as a family, we will always try to save her as much as we can. We will do everything just to save my sister.
Nikki is an aspiring communications graduate, bare foot running athlete, a loving sister, and a good friend. Let us help her pursue her dreams and make her live a normal life again.
We hope that you can help us support in our cause. Our family is already burdened with credit card debts and we are knocking on your generous hearts for any financial support.
