Let's help Kyla fight cancer!

Please help Kyla fight Cancer. This is her story. Details about donating funds can be found at the bottom of the page. Thank you for taking the time to listen and considering donating to her cause.

This is my younger sister, Kyla. In late 2017, she was diagnosed with stage 3 of a rare type of breast cancer (triple negative). She has been undergoing chemotherapy and now immunotherapy and looking at her, you won’t even think she is sick if not for the lack of hair on her head.

Back in late 2017, it was different.

We caught the disease in the late stage, and Kyla had an ulcerated and exposed tumor on her left breast at that point. It was a very scary and uncertain time. She had to get an operation to remove her left breast. During that time, we had a benefit concert and raised funds for her treatment and operation. All her friends and loved ones came to support and it was a big success. The operation was also a big success!

After the successful operation, Kyla still had to undergo oral chemotherapy. During this time, her hair had started to grow back and she had become healthier than ever. For half a year, life seemed to be getting back on track.

October 2018: Kyla felt some lumps growing in the back part of her body. The lumps were very visible and in the area of the scars of her operation. Because of this, her scheduled PET scan was expedited and the results were very discouraging - the tumors were back and this time it had progressed aggressively.

A new round of chemotherapy was scheduled, plus a new therapy called Immunotherapy which was just allowed for her type of cancer. We hoped for the best for this round of treatments. By this time, the funds we raised the year before were already depleted, but we decided not to do another fund raising activity.

Right before new year's of 2019, Kyla had another PET Scan. The results were devastating. Not only did the tumors keep increasing, they also grew significantly and spread in her lungs and chest wall. It was a very hard time for us, as the expenses had been piling on for her treatments and had already reached around P250,000 ($4800) per 21 days on the average.

In the image below, you can see the scan on the left, which was the new result, compared to the scan on the right from just three months before.

January 2019: Kyla was now going to try a new and much stronger chemotherapy, as well as her immunotherapy. She also had started to do some alternative practices such as Hyperthermia, as well as follow a strict nutrition plan. Every week, we go to the hospital to do Chemotherapy. Physically, she was strong, but only cancer fighters know the mental battle that you have to deal with on a daily basis. Kyla never gave up and always had a positive attitude.

March of 2019: Kyla had just taken her latest PET scan. She waited until the weekend passed before checking the result.

Against all odds, the disease has now shown signs of regression!

The tumors were fewer and also much smaller, and except for one section that showed metabolic activity, the cancer has regressed. Thanks to the treatments and the new chemotherapy, it seems that her body has finally gotten the right help to fight this disease effectively. We are now confident that this new protocol and chemotherapy is working and are in this for a long battle ahead. It's a big win and a first step towards a long term and sustainable recovery. We are by no means out of the woods yet, and it will be a long battle.

If you came this far and are interested to help Kyla, any contribution will be a big help. The cost of these treatments are shockingly high. Here is the breakdown of the costs which now stands at P250,000+ ($4800) every 21 days. These treatments are very expensive, plus the auxiliary costs and many other expenses related to the illness.

That cost is for every 21 days. With all the discounts we can get, it is down to P250,000+ every 21 days. That's P4,325,000 a year.

We have managed so far for the last two years with the the help of friends and family, as well as some aid from government agencies. But this will be a very long battle, and we are asking for your help.

We humbly ask anyone and everyone who wants to help, no matter how small, to contribute for Kyla’s medical expenses. Any contribution will go a long way in helping her and my family deal with this dreaded disease as we fight alongside Kyla. You can donate any amount, it will still help!
