In a private house in Rujevica (Rijeka, Croatia) there is a shelter for animals that are often (wrongly) considered to be able to live independently and with quality on the street. Kitten Safe House is a unique association both in purpose and in determination. KSH volunteers keep abandoned and wounded cats in their home and take care of them 24 hours a day.
Evelin and Daniela Knežević are dedicated cat lovers and in their care at some point there may be from 30 to 70 cats depending on the circumstances. They rely on the help of a small number of other volunteers and on occasional donations. Visits to the vet in multiple rounds are part of everyday life, as is all-day care for cats who are often ill and require regular care.
In addition to basic necessities such as dry and wet food and sand for cats, it is necessary to provide means for sterilization and castration. It is important to mention that the association primarily cares for kittens that must be healthy, vaccinated and cleaned of parasites before adoption, which gives an additional cost of 300 kn per kitten. Also, the association takes care of abandoned cats, many of which are disabled, sick and homeless, which is why they need constant veterinary care. Therapies that are necessary for most rescued cats are very expensive, especially in the case of surgery or when the cats are seriously ill. Only the kittens that are currently in Kitten require a lot of constant care, feeding and supplementation every few hours, and all other wards, especially the sick ones, should be under the watchful eye of this association.
We hereby invite you to support the work of Kitten Safe House with your donation and give each kitten (and a cat) a chance for a better life.
