Let’s help Blaz get his normal life back.

ONE JUMP, ONE SECOND AND HIS LIFE WAS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

It was a sunny day in August of 2019. Blaž and his coworkers went to the field to perform some geodetic measurements. We have to mention that 24 years old Blaž helped as a Geodetic surveyor in a company in Ljubljana during his studies at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering. He never thought that that day will be the day which changed everything. During the lunch break, they went to the river to freshen up, and unfortunately, he had an accident. All other coworkers that were with him at the time took the jump into the river from the same spot, but Blaž was very unfortunate to hit the soft bottom of the river, and he broke his fifth cervical vertebrae. When under the water, he opened his eyes, and that was the only part of the body he was able to move. He hoped that his colleagues would have noticed the accident and that they would have pulled him out. His colleagues were there to help him first. They pulled him out of the water and held him in cold water for more than an hour until the arrival of the air ambulance. That’s the only memory Blaž has from that doomed day.

He woke up from coma ten days after the accident. He could not move or speak because he was intubated and because his nerve system suffered severe injuries. The only parts of the body he was able to move were his eyes and lips, but what gave us hope was that he was able to feel his hands. At first, communicating with him was very difficult, because he was intubated for a long time. Slowly he started making progress. First, he was able to move his head, and then his arms. Through all this time his positive energy and mindset were (and still are) really impressive. Sometimes it was he who encouraged us to believe that everything will be okay again. His first words after the accident were: “I am just happy that I am still alive.” Blaž stayed in the hospital in an intensive care unit for 3 months and then 6 months in the rehabilitation centre.

He was diagnosed with Spastic quadriplegia. Over a year has passed since the accident and his condition is improving by the day. However, he needs a wheelchair in order to stay mobile alongside three care assistants for domestic care and assistance with everyday activities. Nevertheless, everyone around him has great hopes for rehabilitation. Every small progress regarding his condition is a great success for him and us. We all are praying and hoping for him to get better soon. For this to happen, a very expensive rehabilitation will be needed.

Blaž has a lot of friends, who all want to help him, and his family get back on their feet. Although we've always stood and will stand by him since the accident, just our help won't be enough since the therapies that are recommended for him are too expensive. Because the insurance money won't cover all the costs, we kindly ask you to help. Every little donation counts and Blaž and everyone who loves him will be eternally grateful.
