Campaign Story
Our son, Robbie Waugh, is a 2013 First Class Honours graduate in Musical Theatre from the University of Central Lancashire. For a very long time, he has been talking to us enthusiastically about wanting to work as a performer on cruise ships and, after more trips to London than I wish to count for auditions, he has just secured his dream job as a Production Vocalist on board the luxury cruise liner Celebrity Summit.
He will be off out to Miami in just 8 weeks time for 2 months of training, as part of the inaugural cast of a new production. He will then be cruising off to destinations including all around the Carribean (Barbados, St Lucia etc), the Bahamas, Florida, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and more.
Sounds great, doesn't it? There is, however, a catch. More than a catch, a major obstacle. He will be paid, obviously, but as a non-US citizen, he will not be able to receive his first pay until he actually signs onto the ship, which is two months after he arrives. Not only that, but he also has to fork out for the visa to allow him into America and an expensive medical exam. Realistically, it is going to cost him in the region of £1000 to be able to start his new job. Once he is actually at sea, the world is his oyster, but that is a huge amount to find in such a short time to get him to that position.
Naturally, as parents, we would love to be able to just dip into our savings and hand that cash over, but, while other parents our age may have paid off their mortgages and have been organised enough earlier in their lives to have long term savings plans maturing now, those are not the cards life has dealt us. We do not have savings, nor the means to be able to generate that much cash in the time it is needed.
We are therefore asking his and our friends and family to help him by making a small contribution. Even if you can spare a couple of pounds, every donation will help. We would hate for Robbie to have to turn this job down through not being able to afford to take it up, so we, his Mum and Dad, would be extremely grateful for anything you can do help him get his dream job started.
Thank you
Gerry & Vanessa Waugh

The final countdown
Update posted by Gerry Waugh at 11:52 pmOne month today, we will be taking Robbie to Heathrow to catch a flight to Miami and the start of his dream job. Robbie is working two jobs, plus gigs where he can get them, and saving as much and as fast as he can, but there has been a. . . . .
