Let’s clean the rivers and brooks together!
As you might know, plastic pollution is a huge problem worldwide. It affects wildlife of all types. Particularly problematic is the presence of plastic in aqueous environment, for instance in rivers, brooks, lakes, oceans. Industrially made products in such fragile environments substantially influence the life of creatures residing there.
Plastic bottles can take up to 450 years to degrade while other types of plastic waste can take up to 1000 years. When in aqueous environment (sea), plastic typically brakes down into smaller and smaller fragments that can reach the size of plankton, which is a source of food for fish and other marine animals. Therefore, these creatures replace this for food and consume plastic fragments, which typically results in their death. Since these fragments are so small, it is impossible to remove them from the environment and will stay there until they completely decompose. Consequently, we have to do everything that we can to prevent plastic waste entering the natural habitat, where it can cause significant environmental damage.
To contribute to a better world, I have decided to take an action and do what I can to address the problem. As I live next to the river and a brook, which flows into it, day after day I see the plastic pollution and its consequences. For that reason, I have decided to do my part and start cleaning the natural environment. Thus, I have created a plan, which I want to present herein.
I have decided that the work will consist of 3 main projects that are divided as follows.
First, I will focus on cleaning the banks of the river, which are at the moment polluted with plastic waste as it can be seen on the picture below.
Furthermore, I will conduct a river clean and I will collect rubbish/trash by boat that is floating around the river.
Finally, my work will terminate on cleaning the brook, which flows in the river and I will collect rubbish/trash on its banks and inside the water.
To make this project transparent and easy to follow, people will be able to follow my progress on Instagram, where I will post photos of the cleanup (click).
For the project realisation, I am seeking for donations from people around the world. Every contribution is welcome and could help in achieving my goal. If I am going to raise enough funds, I will in the future expand my work and the area of the clean-up.
Let’s make the difference together, because together we are the strongest!
