+++++ UPDATE: May 23, 2019 +++++

Mama has joined our Creator at 5:47pm. She fought really well but her body could not take it anymore. We have surrendered her to the Lord in good faith. Together, Mama and Papa will praise and glorify Jesus in eternity.

For the last time, i will be knocking on your kind hearts. Bill went up to 650k. I was able to raise about 50k from all of you. Then my savings, borrowed money, credit cards up to 100k. Now the hospital needs another 150k so my mom’s body can be released. I was able to get help from pcso (14k) and dswd (5k). Trying to reach out to politicians and other local services too. The rest of the bill, I will try to make a PN then apply for a bank loan. However, it would take several days for processing. All I hope to have now is for mama to have a decent service so family and friends can view her before she is cremated. I am sorry for all the hassle but thank you for all the prayers and support you have given my family. You are my source of strength and I hope to make it up to you soon.

***** UPDATE: MAY 21, 2019 *****

It has been more than two weeks and we are still in the hospital for mama’s recovery. Unfortunately, we were not able to transfer her to a public hospital since her condition is still too fragile for transport. Her breathing capability has also regressed so the doctors had to put her back on mech vent. And because of this, bills continue to pile up. All your support have allowed us to continue purchase medicines on cash basis and pay for her routine dialysis 3x a week. However, use of the machine and other medical equipment including room rate and nursing services cause our dues to further go up. I already sought help from PCSO and DSWD but the guarantee letters are still not be enough to significantly make a difference on our balance. I humbly ask for your continued prayers and donation to help us in these challenging times. Thank you and God bless your heart!

***** UPDATE: MAY 18, 2019*****

It’s been 13 days since the incident. We spent 10 days in the ICU and now on our third day in recovery. My utmost gratitude to those who pray for mama’s health as well as to everyone who shared their blessings to my family.

Mama’s vital signs have improved although she still experiences occasional difficulty in breathing. Sadly, her hypertension has also lead to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) which requires her to undergo regular dialysis session (2-3 times per week).

I anchor my faith to God that He will heal mama and let us go through this challenge as better and stronger persons.

Again, thank you for praying and supporting our family in this circumstance. My heart is filled because of you.

***** UPDATE: MAY 15, 2019 ****

After 10 days of being in the ICU, we are finally out and are now in a regular room for her recovery. Words are not enough to express my gratitude to those who continuously prayed for my mom’s health.

As my mom continues to recuperate, I am up for my next battle: the bills. As of this writing, our dues are more than Php 500,000. This does not yet include PFs and charges in the regular room she is in plus medication. I am working on transferring mama to PGH. However, the Lourdes admin needs me to settle at least 50% of the remaining balance - something I don’t have. I was able to pay about Php 120k but still it leaves me with Php 400k to settle.

I’m knocking on your kind hearts for any support you can provide. If we could raise funds for at least a portion of the dues, I can move my mama out of this private facility and let her continue recovery in PGH. Thank you and bless us all by the Lord Jesus Christ.

****************

It was 3am when I got a call from my sister. Mom’s having difficulty breathing, she cannot speak a word. She had to be rushed to the nearest hospital. Minutes later, she was already in ICU on machine assisted respiration. Her blood pressure is 200/100, some people would have not survived.

All of these I only knew over the phone. I was on another island the Philippines and the only way to get back to Manila is to wait for the next plane leaving by 11am. I was so worried. I thought i wont be able to see my mom’s thoughtful smile anymore. The only thing i can do is pray and frantically wait for my flight back.

Mama Remedios is the sweetest mom ever. Her name means "remedies" in Spanish. It is taken from the title of the Virgin Mary, Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, meaning "Our Lady of the Remedies".

She has raised us on her own from the time my father died of kidney failure in 2007. She cooks really well. She has spoiled us with love and care especially by making our favorite dishes. She could easily whip a special meal just with a few basic ingredients — TLC is the secret.

I cant imagine life without mom. I’m the eldest of two. I am the only one working for my family since papa died when I was still in high school. Mama is diagnosed with acute respiratory failure secondary to pulmonary congestion; hypertension. Unfortunately, the bills have gone up since we are here in the ICU. It’s only been 6 days yet our dues are more than Php 300,000 already. Health insurance wont cover a cent since her diagnosis is considered pre existing before i got hired in my current company. Her condition has also caused complications on her kidneys. She has undergone 4 sessions of hemo-dialysis to reduce the amount of creatinine in her blood. PhilHealth also declined my claim because i failed to pay 9/12 months of contribution in 2018 - a policy i just have to deal with.

Reaching out to your kind hearts to help my small family keep mom alive and continue her medications. I know this is a long shot but I am keeping my hopes high.

It’s Mother’s Day in a couple of days. Please hug your mom for me. Thanks for taking time reading my story and any support will be truly appreciated.
